Pokemon Sun & Moon Guide: Where to find evolution items like the fire stone, thunder stone, ice stone and others

A major part of any Pokemon game is Evolution. Some Pokemon simply evolve via leveling them up, but some require different criteria.

One of the more common means of Pokemon evolution is by exposing them to or giving them a certain item. That item will, under certain circumstances, make that Pokemon evolve. For some Pokemon being shown the item is enough. Others have to fight holding it, or be traded while holding it.

All important is where to find those stones and items - plus what Pokemon they have an effect on. We've got that covered. Here's all the details so far, though keep in mind this page is a work in progress.

Where to find a Dawn Stone

  • This item will make a male Kirlia evolve into Gallade and a female Snorunt evolve into Frosslass.
  • The Dawn Stone can be found in Hau'oli city or via Poke Pelago.

Where to find a Dusk Stone

  • The Dusk Stone makes several Pokemon evolve: Murkrow, Misdreavus, Lampent and Doublade.
  • You can get one of these stones just off the beach in the Poni Wilds area of Poni Island - it's underwater. You can also buy one from the Flea Market at the Malie Community Center, or get one via Poke Pelago.

How to get the Electirizer and Magmarizer

  • If you trade an Electabuzz while it's holding a Electirizer, it'll evolve into Electivire.
  • If you trade a Magmar while it's holding a Magmarizer it'll evolve into Magmortar.
  • This can be found in Poni Island's Seafolk Village. Head to the lef tto the first little boat-building on the jetty. An NPC inside will give you both the Magmarizer and Electirizer. You can also buy these from the Battle Tree's shop.

Where to get an Everstone

  • This stone actually has the opposite effect to most on this list. If given to any Pokemon, it'll stop it from evolving.
  • Get the Everstone in Hau'oli City by heading into Ilima's house and battling him. He'll give the stone as a reward.

Where to find a Fire Stone

  • This stone will make Vulpix evolve into Ninetales, Growlithe into Arcanine, Eevee into Flareon and Pansear into Simisear.
  • It can be found in Diglett's Tunnel on Akala Island or purchased from Olivia's shop in Konikoni City.

Where to find an Ice Stone

  • This stone can be used to evolve the Alolan Vulpix into Alolan Ninetales and Alolan Sandshrew into Alolan Sandslash.
  • The Ice Stone can be grabbed from Po town's upper left corner or acquired via Poke Pelago.

Where to get a Leaf Stone

  • The Leaf Stone evolves several grass-type Pokemon when they're exposed to it: Gloom, Weepinbell, Exeggcute, Nuzleaf and Pansage.
  • In Sun & Moon you can buy a Leaf Stone from Olivia's shop in Konikoni City.

Where to find the Moon Stone

  • This stone can evolve several species of Pokemon - Nidorina, Nidorino, Clefairy, Jigglypuff, Skitty and Munna.
  • You can find a Moon Stone of your own on Ula'ula Island - Route 13. It's near the fountain you pass by.

Where to get an Oval Stone

  • If given to Happiny to hold, that Pokemon will then evolve into Chansey the next time it levels up.
  • You can get the Oval Stone from Paniola Ranch on Akala Island, just outside the Pokemon Nursery.

Where to find a Prism Scale

  • The Prism Scale item makes Feebas evolve into the much more impressive Milotic.
  • You'll be able to get your hands on a Prism Scale on Poni Island's Exeggutor Island area.

Where to get your hands on a Sun Stone

  • The Sun Stone makes several species of Pokemon evolve: Sunkern, Cottonee, Petilil, Helioptile and even an alternative evolution for Gloom.
  • You can grab one of these in the Malie Community Center is Ula'ula city - an NPC will hand it over when you chat to them. It can also drop via Poke Pelago.

Where to get a Thunder Stone

  • The Thunder Stone is a classic - it makes Pikachu evolve into Raichu or Alolan Raichu and makes Eevee evolve into Jolteon. Eelektrik also evolves via it.
  • You can find yourself a free Thunder Stone on Akala Island - it's behind the truck in the Dream Park. Even easier - it's found for super cheap in Olivia's jewelry shop in Konikoni City.

Where to get a Water Stone

  • The water stone is the catalyst for a number of significant water-type Pokemon evolutions. It'll evolve Poliwhirl, Shellder, Staryu, Lombre and Panpour - plus, of course, Eevee into Vaporeon.
  • The water stone can be found in Alola at Olivia's Jewelry shop, which is basically an elemental stone store. That's in Konikoni City. You can also find a water stone via Poke Pelago.

There's more evolutionary items in Pokemon Sun & Moon that trigger evolution when a Pokemon holds them, but we're still figuring out where all those are. This page will be updated - stick with us.
