Zelda: Breath of the Wild Guide: Finding Midna's Helmet and Majora's Mask

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is a pretty amazing game, and Nintendo is now finally adding to it with a bunch of new content in the form of the Trial of the Sword DLC pack. This is the first part of the two-part expansion pass, a season pass style add-on for the game that'll give you a bunch of new content. The second part will deliver an all-new story experience, while the first part gives you new items, missions and tweaks to the main adventure.

While this first DLC pack also adds the all-important master mode / hard mode, a new trial that echoes the past Cave of Ordeals Zelda challenge rooms and some other new features, one of the new additions likely to please mose hardcore Zelda fans are the new items - new gear that pays tribute to classic games in the Zelda series.

It wouldn't be Nintendo to just give you these new items, so they've been scattered and hidden out across Hyrule once the DLC is installed. Here, we're going to tell you how to get two stylish, useful and nostalgic new pieces of DLC headgear for Link: Majora's Mask and Midna's Helmet.

Majora's Mask Location: where to find the treasure chest containing the evil mask

Majora's Mask is of course from the Zelda game of the same name where it had a starring role and was essentially the main antagonist of the whole thing. In Breath of the Wild, wearing it will make some enemies friendly to you.

The game offers up some handy hints of where Majora's Mask can be found. Here's what the hint reads, if you want to try to work it out for yourself:

"The ancient mask lies at the ruins where soldiers gathered. From there, the waters of Lake Kolomo are visible."

This location is actually pretty specific, but in case you're struggling, here it is on a map:

The actual location name is the Kolomo Garrison Ruins, and it's just a little bit North of the edge of the Great Plateau, the game's starting area. Look around for a chest buried in the ground, then use Magnesis to pull it up above ground. Majora's Mask is yours!

Midna's Helmet Location: where to find the treasure chest containing the twilight helm

Midna from Twilight Princess is arguably one of the Zelda series' most beloved companion characters - actually an interesting character and not so chatty she makes you want to turn the game off. (I'm lookin' at you, Fi). In Breath of the Wild, her ancient helmet gives you guardian production when worn, weakening the attacks from Guardian robots.

Like Majora's Mask, there's an official in-game hint as to the helmet's location, which is this:

"The princess of twilight, whose stories are handed down alongside those of the Hero of Twilight... Her helmet can be found at the temple ruins soaked in the waters of Regencia River."

Like Majora's Mask, this one is actually fairly obvious again, but here it is on an actual map too:

Appropriately for Midna and the plot of Twilight Princess, her helmet can be found at the Sage Temple Ruins. This is just to the West of Central Hyrule and to the West of the Giant's Forest. The temple is partly submerged underwater.
