Square Enix Japan have just released a new trailer for the upcoming PSP title Final Fantasy Type-0 on the game's official website.
The trailer expands on the footage shown in the minute and a half long
Tokyo Game Show trailer, showing off a more full look at the game before its Japanese launch later this month.
Plot Spoilers, Character Introductions and a questionable choice of theme music await you in this new Type-0 Trailer. While we're obviously lacking context, some stuff happens in this trailer which seems pretty spoilerific, so don't say we didn't warn you.
If you can't get enough Type-0, we uploaded almost
40 new screenshots yesterday and you can find more
Screenshots,
Artwork and
Videos of Type-0 over
in the Media Vault.
The game sadly hasn't been announced for the West at all - but don't fear! The PSP is region-free and Play Asia have the
Asian and
Japanese versions of the game
available for preorder. In addition to that,
two versions of the soundtrack by Crisis Core composer Takeharu Ishimoto are also
available for Preorder.
I haven't read the books either but from what I've heard, they are suopespd to be really good. Also I'm a big HBO fan and trust them with almost every series they do. Looks very LOTR don't you think? Dennis
ReplyI can't wait for this show to start. I'm so excited. It's based on my farvoite series of books, and the creators of the show have done such a great job of casting each role. The only casting choice I'm not thrilled about is Lena Headey as Cersei Lannister, but I'm trying to withhold judgment until I see how well she handles the role. I'm surprised we didn't see any of Nikolaj Coster-Waldau in the behind-the-scenes footage (unless he was in there somewhere and I just missed it).
Replythat is not actually showing off, they just doing their job and they try very hard to work their ways up for many years to be successful.
Replyprobably u american people r jealous because we asian people r highly intelligent of creating the game
Replythere is nothing to be jealous about, asian games in general are falling in the market, American are starting to spread, not trying to start conflict because I like games as a whole,Im just saying dont get on your high horse unless your certain of the facts, with that i take my leave
Replylol. in case that doofus is still here, its me, "derp" in the comments below, passing by again
Replylol at that whiny baby hating on the characters, then saying he studied japanese at uni level for FIVE YEARS and not understanding. i only have a minor in japanese and i understood most of it and then went on to translate the entire video. you're a fucking loser and a bitch, also DUMB.
get fucked. the characters are fine. i'm guessing you really don't understand SHIT. a lot of the dialogue in this game is near FFtactics level, not quite masterpiece, but there is a lot of subtlety in there. if you want to judge the entire dialogue based on this trailer full of one-liners then that just makes you a double retard. Looks interesting indeed. However the song in the second part of the trailer is utterly terrible. Traditionally I also can't stand Japanese voiceacting
ReplyThe comments remind me so much of this: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.p hp/Main/FanHater
ReplyWhiners are like babies. Do what I do: ignore them. They're making their lives boring by being cynics, missing out on a lot of fun things Square Enix churns out.
ReplyMan, I really hope they release this overseas. I don't understand any Japanese at all :/ and this looks a lot better than a lot of games Square Enix has released in the past few years. Ughhh. Why don't they just release it over here?!?! The PSP market isn't all that bad over here. I know tons of people who would buy it...
ReplyNooo! i dont Rem to die =(
ReplyHonestly, I never post comments on blogs but I tent to like reading the comments to see what other opinions are out there.
ReplyAnd this time I feel compelled to say something.
Also, I have no idea if either of the two who were "arguing" are going to return to this thread to see if any reply had been made, but that does not mean that others are not going to read this.
First: Have we forgotten this is Square-Enix? Ok, fine, Remove the Enix part, and return to the Square. One of the major selling points of the Final Fantasy franchise has ALWAYS been Repetition with Variation. It is the key to humor in TV, Movies, and life. Jokes arn't funny unless there is a backstory, right? Try watching Mystery science theater with someone who understands all the references and someone who does not.
Now, Square is not telling jokes here, but they are using the principle. One of the things I love when playing a Final Fantasy game is to look for all of the things they bring back from prior games, and how they have changed them!
To me, it is fun, and I believe it to be very successful. My comment on this matter: More power to them. So what if they resemble Organization 13. That was more than likely on purpose. Accept this time instead of calling them 1, 2, 3, they called them Ace, Deuce, Queen, King, ect. Both groups have 12 main characters, Roxas being the 13th to organization.
About the Language. I studies 3 years in college, 2 in highschool. I moved to Japan for a couple of years and did not understand a thing -at first-
Why? Because not everyone speaks 標準語(The standard Japanese dialect / manner of speaking (Known for the Tokyo region.) I did not move to Japan to speak English. I moved to Japan to meet people, get to know them and their culture. I spend almost all of my time in the Osaka Kobe areas, and their accents are WAY thicker that Tokyo (which you would study in college) And I got to know many many high school and college kids. A: Can I just say they are So cool? I had so much fun with those guys. B: They spoke WAY differently from each other. the words they used, the pronunciation. Everything. It's the same in Tokyo. The kids speak very different Japanese. You can't really know it . understand it / speak it unless you are living out there with them. Ha, even Old man speak in Japan is WEIRD! And those Baa-chans? Oh men, especially in Mie-ken. They were SO hard to understand, but some of the nicest people in the world. You get used to it, very fast. Then, before you know it, your talking like them.
Why do I bring this up? So many of the characters that talked in that trailer reminded me so much of living in Japan and hanging out with the youth.
I'm Sorry, but this 'is' a game about High school aged kids!
Have you seen the entertainment in Japan?
Isn't almost EVERY Japanese cartoon about "average" Highschool kids with amazing powers that go on crazy adventures?
I have read reports from Square-Enix that state that their intent for this game was to allow the player to assume an identity in the world of FFT-0. They designed it for the Portable platform (originally cellphone) So that you could take it with you anywhere you went.
Why make so many characters? So you could choose the character you want to identify with the most. Give enough variation, and you can easily find the person you want to be like.
Final Fantasy 8 was one of my favorites, and even I felt there was not enough characters. If you really want to compare FFT-0 to something, you should be comparing it to FFVIII, Not to KH. We are talking about a group of kids to go to a special school to receive incredible training, and are placed in situations where they must risk their lives in bloody battle.
In fact, watching the trailer, as well as other videos for this game, this looks to me to be the "bloodiest" Final Fantasy yet (in terms of showing a graphical representation of blood.) I found it to be quite intriguing, actually. The risk felt a little bit more real.
It always strikes my heart a little when a game is willing to physically kill of characters, or show them in Very Mortal states. Go read Harry Potter, go watch Serenity. It works, and this is the furthest I have seen square push it.
Final Fantasy has a clear style, and I love watching them take it, push it, and do many different things with it.
Yes, they are a company that loves to experiment, sometimes it works Very well, and other times.. Not so well, but I applaud them for it! How often do you see the FPS genre do something daringly different? The only one I have see in a Long time has been Portals, and it was BRILLIANT! (I Love you Valve!!!)
But, if they never tried, then we would Never have the Charm of GLaDos, or the Power of a character that Never talks (Chell is one of my all time favorite protagonists, I swear. She has a gorgeous design you rarely see, yet you felt empowered playing her (I don't care who you are either, you felt it!))
Crystal Chronicles was truly different. It was an idea, a concept. Simple gameplay function. Was it the greatest game made? Far from, but it had Style! Those character designs, with the Music! I had to buy that soundtrack. I also thought that FFXIII had some of the best music of the franchise.
Why? It was Different! As was FFXII. They say that FFXII was a visit to classic final fantasy, and I enjoyed (almost) every minute of it! The music fit the world, and the style was, I thought, a great blend between Classic and "Modern" Final Fantasies.
New gameplay mechanic? Different, sure, Bad? Not at all! Besides, how many people play MMOrpgs? Far too many. It was a blend of FFXI and prior final fantasies.
FFX removed the Action time bar, and FFX IS my favorite FF game, period. I have played nearly ALL of the final fantasies (minus 3 and 5. still need to get around to those two...) But there was something special about FFX. and you can remove the graphics! Give me FFX in 8 / 16 bit, and I would play it in a heartbeat!
7 was different from 6, and it was wildly successful. 8 was different from 7, it was well received. 9 was different from 8, and it was a classic. 10 was different from 9, and people loved it. (11 should have been called FFO, and should not have received a Number (my only gripe with FF, same with FFXIV ) I thought 12 was great, and 13, though many felt it was not complete, Still shook things up and made a powerful statement.
So we come back to this little handheld game.
Type-zero.
Tell me. Is Square-Enix doing anything they have not done before? Nope! But that is their Formula! THAT is the formula that square 'should' be known for! Why does EVERYONE Miss it?
They blame EVERYTHING on the merge of Square and Enix.
LAST I CHECKED, The Directors and Leads of the modern Final Fantasy Worked on almost All of the older games! It's the Same People, People.
So, What formula does Square use? Take a concept or two of what was successful to a prior product, and put a new twist on it!
Does FFT-0 fulfill that plight?
It. Does. Indeed.
More power to ya Square-Enix.
More Power.
Now where is my FFX HD remake? I am WAY looking forward to that more than I am the FFVII remake, haha. (Don't get me wrong, LOVED FFVII, And, I personally LOVE that they are remaking all of their older final fantasies. Bringing back great memories, one game at a Time!)
I hear you loud and clear breh!
ReplyNow, THIS is the kind of reply I bow down to.
ReplyI am the "Hater" everybody seems to be referring to. Thank you for taking your time to use your brain a little, and provide a valid point to your opinion, plus an interesting read.
I've not have the fun you did when I went to Japan. In fact, I was greeted mostly by racist looks and overall nationalism to the extreme. That isn't to say that everybody I met was mean, but I did not get to enjoy the finer aspects of the culture. I guess it can be just because of a "time and place" situation. Maybe I just met the wrong people.
Final Fantasy VIII did cross my mind when thinking about the game, and I do have to reinforce my statement that I simply am not amused. Now, I fully understand your point about Repetition + Variation and, to some extent, I completely agree with it! Only, just as everything in life, it can be done wonderfully as it can be done very badly. In my personal opinion, it wasn't done that well. But again, that was my personal opinion.
Apparently, everybody feels that they are some sort of hero who needs to protect a multi-millionaire company who isn't aware or interested in their existence as an individual. I still hold quite a grudge that people are hypocritical enough to judge my opinion. I find it funny that they chastise me for displaying my extreme dislike of a specific situation, all the while displaying THEIR own extreme dislike for THIS particular situation.
Had they bothered to give me any solid ground behind their words, I would have not felt compelled to make a joke out of them. I probably would have answered back as politely as I possibly could, such as I am doing to you.
Whether or not we agree with some particular titles being good or not is irrelevant, truthfully. "Better", or "Good" for that matter, is about the most subjective concept there is. What is good to me isn't necessarily going to be good to you. Personally, I enjoy the Shin Megami Tensei series far more than I have ever enjoyed Final Fantasy post-Enix merge. That is just MY opinion for what is "best" for ME. It is subjective, people! My opinion is subjective. Why do people feel so angry at me? And you know what's funnier than that? Most people are going to answer: "NAH I wasn't angry, I just blah and blah and [insert some reason to reply that will make them somehow look extremely cool]". Yet, I was still greeted with hatred for having a different opinion than them. I was still responded to, AND I was still treated like an outsider simply because my opinion is different.
See? In the long run, who hates difference more? Me, or them?
To finish this off, thank you. Thank you for restoring my faith in the Internet society. I did NOT believe that any given person would ever bother to actually read what I said and argument on it without feeling the need to be an ass. Whether or not you welcome my appreciation, it is there.
uh kinda a major spoiler at the end aint it?
ReplyTo be fair the tagline of the game is
ReplyIt was their destiny, and theirs alone to decide. Free from fear of fate, gazing undaunted into the eye of death.
So people dying shouldn't be a surprise(and I bet she won't be the only one)
Seriously, the names should be labled "Guest#1" or "GuestA" cuz i kinda lost track of where the argument was going.
Reply(BTW, I am FOR the game so HA!)
Reply"1) Can you disprove my statement?"
What statement? My problem is all you put are blanket statements. or generalizations.
2) Can you remove the comparisons to Organization XIII and the Turks' gimmicks?
Why should I when there are none to begin with? Your comparison so ridiculous superficial it defeats it's self. If you knew anything about this game, this shouldn't even be brought up. Might as well as well say Class-Zero are Shinra Soldiers, Returners, Crusaders etc, because their are a group, derp.
"3) Can you disprove that Square-Enix is trying too hard to innovate on a multiple award-winning formula that has seen much more popularity than now, even though it was officially stated (ever since Final Fantasy XI)?
"
No because the series has always innovate ever since FFII, there's no vague "awarding wining formula" at all.
"4) I've got 5 years-worth of a Japanese University-level course and I STILL can't understand most things. Are you here to stand that you still know more than me?"
Arrogant aren't we? You don't even know anything about me so who are you to say? This also makes your comments on trailer even worse.
"I've said my piece, really."
Good because it was a whole lot of nothing.
1) "What statement? My problem is all you put are blanket statements. or generalizations."
ReplyStill not counter-proving anything. Go ahead, change the subject. Might make me forget you can't defend a point if your life depended on it.
2) "Why should I when there are none to begin with? Your comparison so ridiculous superficial it defeats it's self. If you knew anything about this game, this shouldn't even be brought up. Might as well as well say Class-Zero are Shinra Soldiers, Returners, Crusaders etc, because their are a group, derp."
The step was to read first and answer secondly. I think you got it wrong, Skip. Try again, later. Much later.
3) "No because the series has always innovate ever since FFII, there's no vague "awarding wining formula" at all."
Wow. You're either, indeed, a newfag, or just incredibly, INCREDIBLY dumb. Leanin' towards the latter.
4) "Arrogant aren't we? You don't even know anything about me so who are you to say? This also makes your comments on trailer even worse."
Blah blah blah, not answering a single question, avoiding subject, seen it before. Still means you're talking out of your ass.
5) "Good because it was a whole lot of nothing."
HAHAHA! Get it? It's funny because your cognitive capabilities don't seem to allow you to answer simple straight-forward questions.
TL;DR: You, sir, are an ape.
guy below me is a douche
Replyseems you have a retarded troll infesting your site
Yeah. Because not agreeing with you makes everybody a troll.
ReplyI giggle when people call ME egotistical, but you absolutely take the "Stupid" cake with the "Moron" candles on top.
The characters are so stupidly uninteresting... And I don't mean by looks alone. They're so dyme-a-dozen it's not even funny. And there's so many of them, how can you repeat so many clichés in one single game? The game reminds me too much of a mix between a "Highschool" Anime cliché, Turks and Organization XIII. I have to repeat - it's not even funny.
ReplyOh well, who cares, really. I wasn't expecting anything good out of Square-Enix anymore anyway. They haven't made a single fully original game since Square merged with Enix. They're trying so hard to "do things we haven't seen before" that the original recipe that made the series grand is long gone. Until Square-Enix hits the inevitable "back to the roots" rock, we'll keep being fed this kind of crap. And even THEN, unless they take a damn hint, we shouldn't expect anything decent.
That fact that all you did was post a blanket statement that could be used for any trailer anywhere, shows you had already made up your mind about the game before you even watched anything.
ReplyNot sure why you even bother commenting at all if you really feel that way something you don't know anything about.
You only say that because you don't understand what they are saying =P
ReplyBut I do, it's not anymore cliched than any FF game and it's still stupid to judge game's plot entirely on out-context trailer.
ReplyOkay, okay. Original poster here, let me have a go:
Reply1) "That could be used for any trailer anywhere" - Irrelevant, non-argumentative and... well, just down right dumb. I'm sorry.
2) "Shows you already made up your mind before you even watched anything" - So, the 9546 posts about it on this website alone ever 2 days amounts to nothing? I suppose the trailer isn't valid either? Or the Demo? I think you are the one whose mind is already made up in defending it because it has "purrteh gurrphics n guurls wiv stockins"
3) "Not sure why you even bother commenting (...) about something you don't know anything about." - So, the fact that you're taking a stand also means nothing? I suppose you know much more about it than me to even consider that I am wrong. By the way, I added the "about", you forgot.
4) "(...) Stupid to judge game's plot entirely on out-context trailer" - Defending something is also considered judging it. Am I seeing a pattern here?
Now, here's what really matter:
1) Can you disprove my statement?
2) Can you remove the comparisons to Organization XIII and the Turks' gimmicks?
3) Can you disprove that Square-Enix is trying too hard to innovate on a multiple award-winning formula that has seen much more popularity than now, even though it was officially stated (ever since Final Fantasy XI)?
4) I've got 5 years-worth of a Japanese University-level course and I STILL can't understand most things. Are you here to stand that you still know more than me?
I've said my piece, really.

Expected something a little more clever, I have to admit. I just realized you are probably not fully developed - at least not enough to argument without using a curseword.
ReplyRemember what I said about becoming "boring"? Congratulations! You leveled-up!
Level 5 -> 6
HP: 325 -> 378
MP: 87 -> 93
Skills: Mildly entertaining -> Monkey-level ignorance
What was that truly retarded comm- Oh yes. "Peace!"
PS: I hope you don't mind. I'm using a retro-projector at a Visual Cultures class while replying. You have now become the laughing stock of about 40 third-year university students, a Psychology and a Visual Cultures teacher. Oh, and a 12 year old kid that came to school with his brother.
