Square Enix headed for more 'Western' games

The president and CEO of Square Enix, famous Japanese developer and publisher, told MCV in an exclusive interview that "I am very interested in European development because there are a lot of very good independent studios."

The president, John Yamamoto, also told the UK publication "We have started having meetings with people right now, and we will keep going. Titles I'm looking at are for Europe and also the US. We are not looking to hire staff one by one, so maybe studios that have good experience would be easier to work with."

Also, much to the delight of 'Western' gamers, Square also outlined plans to bring many exclusive Japanese releases to western shores.

"We have many more titles that we have never released in Europe, and every producer in Square Enix is keen to release all of these titles into the European market," he told MCV. "We have been making titles exclusively for one format for a long time but now we have titles for all formats."

"Early next year we have Final Fantasy XII," he added. "It is a big title for us and 2007 will see more Square titles released in Europe than ever before. We'll release over a dozen titles next year."
