GAME Employees point to Wii Software Shortages

Posted on December 5, 2006 by Alex Donaldson

Employees of GAME - the UK's biggest specialist videogames retailer have began pointing to massive shortages of Wii software and accessories over the period of the UK Launch.
While a lack of hardware was a given, it's quite surprising to learn that most stores will not get a copy of Zelda or extra nunchuk for each console they receive - at many stores Wii gamers may be forced to go home with just the console and Wii Sports.
Remotes and Nunchuk controllers are set to be in short command - and while remotes will be in the Wii Play bundle, there will not be enough nunchuk controllers to go with these.
GAME stores have taken action to try to prevent the shortage from causing too much trouble - banning lone software purchases! Until the launch period is over, don't expect to be able to walk into a GAME store and purchase a game - the chain will only be selling games and accessories to people who have purchased the console.
In addition, all previous software preorders are null and void - software will be sold on a first-come first-served basis on launch morning. Good luck to everyone this Friday!

Where I work we're getting 6 consoles for the launch (¬_¬) then 4 more the week after, then apparently 'there's more due before christmas'. But we will have 20 copies of Zelda for the launch day, other games are bit more scarce. We'll be getting a few Wii-motes too (not enough for an extra one for each console though).

Great, knowing my luck I won't get Twilight Princess for a while. Did preorder my Wii back in the end of August, so hopefully I'll at least get the console at launch. Was looking forward to playing TP all night and morning, though. =(

Another company with these problems in the UK is PC World.
I work for them and today on our intranet it stated that only the first 20% of preorders will be fulfilled on launch day. Anyone who ordered before october 18th should be safe...I preordered on the 20th of october and I might not get it till just before christmas!!!
This also means that Currys/Currys Digital will be in the same position.
    Peace out

it's more stores got far more pre orders for games than they're going to get software. Example I can give you is where I work we have 80 Zelda pre orders, all made over a month ago, and 30 actual copies of the game. We've just notified every customer that it's first come first served as it's the only fair way to do it.

Another reason not to bother with the system until it gets some decent games next year. =)

So they punish those who were smart with pre ordering? in favour to those who would have a fat cry fromnot getting what they want?

    What wankers!
