Sony's Playstation 3 was first introduced at E3 2005. It launched in Japan and America with massive stock shortages in November 2005 but did not make its way to Europe until March 2006.
Despite struggling to match the success of the PS2 the PS3 has become a popular choice amongst gaming enthusiasts and is touted as one of the best value BluRay players on the market. In August 2009, Sony introduced a slim model of the machine, identical in capabilities but smaller and lighter.
GAME to offer Interest Free Credit on PS3 Consoles
Posted on February 1, 2007 by Alex Donaldson A Sony Europe Rep let go of an interesting secret while visiting retail stores today to hype the Playstation 3's UK launch - they are in talks with GAME to offer interest free credit on PS3 consoles.GAME is the UK's largest videogame specialist store with hundreds of stores in the UK and outlets across Europe. While nothing is confirmed, the Sony Rep told us that there were definitely plans being discussed to offer interest free credit to those interested in a PS3 who can't afford it at launch.
While this is normal for some electronics stores for anything costing over around £400 - and the PS3 is set to be £425 - this will be a first for game-specific stores.
"It's worrying," one store manager said. "At the end of the day all sorts of forms have to be filled out for interest free credit - we're going to have hundreds of people queueing up on launch morning - the last thing we need is more to slow down the launch experience."
This store manager later confirmed that there had been no official word from head office, but the Sony Rep ensured us that the GAME group and Sony were planning to offer interest free credit on the console, allowing gamers to pay off the cost of their PS3 for just a few pounds a month over a year.
Upon contacting GAME's head offices we were responded to with a stony-faced "We do not comment on rumours and speculation."
We'll take that as a maybe, then.
