Take control of your enemy's mind in Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor

Last year, Warner Bros. announced that Monolith, the developer behind the F.E.A.R. series, are working on an open-world Action RPG set in Tolkien's Lord of the Rings universe called Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor.

Today, they have posted a pre-alpha walkthrough that shows off some of the game's core mechanics including the Nemesis System, where an enemy is able to remember your character's actions from a previous encounter and react accordingly, and even a way to hold dominion over a character by having them pursue different tasks such as assassinating their boss or go on a spy mission for you.

These baddies are also procedurally-generated, making it so that no two characters are the same, and every encounter is different, making every situation dynamic. The gameplay looks like a combination of Assassin's Creed and Batman: Arkham Asylum with some very interesting new ideas to keep the experience fresh.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is set to be released for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One later this year.
