Final Fantasy XIV to launch this April on PS4

Square Enix has announced it'll release Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn for PlayStation 4 on Monday, April 14, 2014.

The date was first announced as part of a Letter from the Producer stream over the weekend, but Square Enix Europe has press released the announcement this morning.

Pre-orders on the MMO on PS4 begin today (January 27) with pre-order bonusses including two in-game items and early access, which happens from Friday, April 11 up until Sunday, April 13. A reminder that the open beta will begin on PS4 in just over three weeks on February 22, the day of the system's launch in Japan.

Square Enix also announced a collector's edition for the PS4 verison. You can take a gander at the contents of the CE over on the EU PS Blog.

And as previously noted, those playing the PlayStation 3 version will be able to transfer to the PS4 version at no extra cost.

Meanwhile, as part of the aforementioned Letter from the Producer stream over the weekend, director Naoki Yoshida detailed Patch 2.2 for the existing PC and PS3 versions. Through the Maelstrom will include new content that brings with it a new dungeon, a new primal to go up against in Leviathan and more. The update will go live in March.
