PS2 drops off the Japanese top 30 for the first time ever
Posted on June 25, 2009 by Alex Donaldson For the first time in history there isn't a single Playstation 2 title on the Japanese Top 30 Software charts - a sign the system is finally tapering off.Japanese Media Create charts for the week of June 15th to June 21st 2009 features a whopping 16 Nintendo DS titles, 7 Wii titles, 5 PSP titles and 2 PS3 titles - but no PS2 titles.
The system has been a behemoth over the years but it appears with all the hot new releases - especially on DS and PSP - older PS2 classics and even new releases can't keep up.
The question now is if the ex-PS2 users have transferred to PS3 or to other, likely handheld systems.
As always, we'll bring you the highlights from the charts in Japan as they're released. Stay tuned to our RSS Feed and Twitter for the latest.
