Mass Effect 2 PS3 patch leaks Final DLC Title, Details

Posted on February 21, 2011 by Alex Donaldson
Bioware has just released an official patch for Mass Effect 2's PS3 version - and unwittingly revealed some information about the final piece of downloadable content for the game in the process.

Three new trophies included with the new patch all refer to a new piece of DLC titled 'Arrival' - and Bioware had previously confirmed that one more piece of downloadable content was on the way for Mass Effect 2 via their Cerberus News Network service.

The trophies, which will be called achievements in the PC and Xbox 360 versions of the game, are titled 'The Ultimate Sacrifice', 'Covert Action' and 'Last Stand'. The new trophies were spotted by a user over at the Bioware forums and then reposted by the guys over on massive gaming forum NeoGAF. A shot of the trophies on the PS3 can be viewed in that forum post.

The descriptions for the trophies reveal more detailed information about the DLC - but if this checks out and is true (and it's looking that way), they contain spoilers. We're not looking to spoil unreleased content for anyone - so we're going to slap a nice big screenshot of Mass Effect 2 here. Beware scrolling past it - there are potential spoilers for the DLC down there!

The descriptions for the trophies reveal a little more interesting information. Here they are, in full:
The Ultimate Sacrifice - Complete the Arrival DLC
Last Stand - Survive all five waves in the battle for Object Rho
Covert Action - Rescue Dr. Amanda Kenson without attracting hostile attention.

Dr. Amanda Kenson has been mentioned once before in Mass Effect 2 - in the final Cerberus News Network update before the service shut down last month. That update read as follows:
"Historians and astronomers alike are abuzz tonight over a new paper published by Dr. Amanda Kenson of the University of Arcturus. Her team claims that by testing the dust trapped in the gravity wells around a mass relay, and comparing its composition to that of dust clouds in the same system, scientists can create a timeline of when the relay passed through the dust. Her conclusion? “Only a small fraction of the mass effect relays date back 50,000 years,” she writes, “The majority are far older, indicating they were created by a species predating even the Protheans.” Dr. Aurana T’Meles of the University of Serrice met the information with skepticism: “While Dr. Kenson’s methods appear sound, the asari tried a similar procedure centuries ago and discounted it. What civilization could have spanned the galaxy for not thousands, but millions of years? If this were the case, we should have found mountains of evidence of their passing. Where is this species now?"

We're officially excited. The last Mass Effect 2 DLC, Lair of the Shadow Broker, recieved a glowing RPG Site review - here's hoping this final DLC will bridge the gap between Mass Effect 2 and 3 and be equally as engaging. Stick with us for the latest! We've contacted Bioware for comment.

I think we may actually see the first of the reaper's army come out of darkspace, setting the board for me3's final showdown.
It wont be an arena, it's clearly a rescue mission that involves a climactic shootout, presumably in the defense of a certain location called 'Rho'.
And I hope they build on the changes made in ME2 for ME3 as well as bringing back some of the RPG elements of the first game. No. 2 was superior in almost every way to the first game, I'm counting on Bioware to raise the bar again :)
And if all you have to complain about in ME2 is the damn heat clips, then you have issues.

I really hope this is not a "wave" DLC as well... i hate to say it but there is so much riding on this third Mass Effect title. It gives them a chance to do all the things they did right in the first one. and a chance to come back and fix all the things they changed in the second one. Heat clips because the geth figured it out? i call bull shit. i liked the over heat function. and dont get me started on the power ability change!! mass effect one the powers rocked. mass effect two felt a lot like fable 2. they tried to make it look cooler but really just should have left it alone. if it aint broke dont fix it kind of thing. that being said, im positive bioware will not disappoint.

Sounds badass. Though the word "wave" in the achievements worries me, this had better not be an arena dlc...
