The sequel to Zelda: Breath of the Wild is targeting 2022 - here's new a new trailer and screens

Two years after announcing the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Nintendo revealed a new trailer during E3 2021. This trailer showed us new ways to explore Hyrule, and it looks like the sky will feature prominently in this game.

Also revealed as part of the same Nintendo Direct broadcast was that Nintendo is aiming for a 2022 release for the Breath of the Wild sequel. Nintendo has dubiously left the window wide - so it could be an early 2022 game, or it could not show up until the holiday. There's a strong chance that even Nintendo doesn't quite know the answer to that yet.

The official title is still to be determined - though it's unlikely to simply be Breath of the Wild 2, as only the second Zelda title (and the third in Japan) has ever featured a number in the title.

Below, see a bunch of new Breath of the Wild sequel screenshots also relased alongside the new trailer. Now, we go back to carefully studying these images like crazy to see what we can learn about the game and its mechanics...
