Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana Guide: How to max your reputation points and unlock the best ending

In Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana, there are three different endings that the player may see depending on Adol's Reputation value. Only one ending can be seen, and in order to the get the True Ending, various tasks can be completed to raise Adol's Reputation. If you blitz your way through the game without fully exploring the island of Seiren, you might find yourself with a less-than-ideal ending. This guide will detail how the Reputation system works.

There are exactly three endings you can see.

  • True Ending: Have over 200 Reputation Points (PS4 Version), 150 for Vita
  • Normal Ending: Below 200 (150 for Vita) Reputation Points, but above 74. 
  • Bad Ending: 74 and lower.

Due to the additional content added to the PS4 version, a higher amount of reputation is required for the True Ending. 

How to Obtain Reputation.

  • Finding Castaway members (2 Points each)

    2. Dogi -  Story Related (Unmissable)
    3. Alison - White Sand Cape, Chapter 2
    4. Sir Carlan - Raised Coral Forest, Chapter 2 (Unmissable)
    5. Kiergaard - Raised Coral Forest, Chapter 2 (Unmissable)
    6. Catherine - Distant Roar Shore, Chapter 2  (Unmissable)
    7. Sister Nia - Waterfall Limestone Cave, Chapter 2
    8. Dina - Sunrise Beach, Chapter 2 (Unmissable)
    9. Reja - Longhorn Coast, Chapter 2
    10. Miralda - Water and Forest Hills, Chapter 2
    11. Aaron - Schlamm Jungle, Chapter 2 (Unmissable)
    12. Licht - Odd Rock Coast, Chapter 2  (Unmissable)
    13. Kuina - Story Related  (Unmissable)
    14. Austin - Western Foot Plateau, Chapter 3
    15. Silvia - Pangaean Plains, Chapter 4 or 5 (Must examine bonfire in the area first)

  • Completing Quests (1 Point each) 
    • Quests are missable and has three durations, (Short, Mid, Long)
      • Short duration quest must be done before the next story objective.
      • Mid duration quest usually last near the end of the chapter.
      • Long duration quest last till the end of the game.
         
  • Attend Interception Battle. (You can always retry interception battles to acquire a better rank.)
    • S Rank = 4 Points
    • A Rank = 3 Points
    • B Rank = 2 Points
    • C Rank = 1 Point
       
  • Attend Suppression Battle  (PS4 Only)
    • S Rank = 4 Points
    • A Rank = 3 Points
    • B Rank = 2 Points
    • C Rank = 1 Point
       
  • Increase a Castaway Approval (2 Points per star) 
    • Castaway approval can be raised by giving them gifts or completing a request from them.
       
  • Show the Map to Barbaros
    • 10, 20, 30, 40% = 3 Points,
    • 50, 60, 70, 80, 90% = 4 Points
    • 100% = 5 Points
       
  • Finding Pirate or T's Memo (2 Points each)
  • Show all Location Points to Austin (5 Points, 24 Location Points in total)
  • Fed all fish to the Bird (5 Points, 24 Fish in total)
  • Fed all recipes to Mishy (5 Points, 12 Recipes in total)
  • Defeated Master Kong on all encounters (3 Points)
