New playable race, Astrologian & Machinist jobs announced for Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward

At the third Final Fantasy XIV FanFest in Tokyo, Japan ahead of Jump Festa, Naoki Yoshisa took the stage to lift the curtains on more of the content found in Final Fantasy XIV Heavensward. To start things off, it was announced that Nobuo Uetmatsu will return to compose a new main theme for the expansion pack, which launches sometime next Spring.

The long-teased new playable race was finally revealed to be called the "Au Ra", humanoids with scaled skin, light hair and curved horns. In addition, series icon Alexander was revealed to be the new raid dungeon. Unlike the Coils of Bahamut, there will be two difficulty settings for this mechanical behemoth - a more accessible normal mode as well as the expected challenging hard mode.

Joining the previously announced Dark Knight job, two additional professions were also revealed. First up is the Astrologian, a healer/support class that handles a star globe and a deck of cards. Second is the Machinist, an acrobatic ranged class that wields firearms and can deploy turrets on the battlefield. You can see their artworks and some screenshots in the gallery, along with artwork for an Au Ra Dark Knight.

Yoshi-P also revealed a Collector's Edition for Japan, which includes a special case artwork, Dragon Figurine, an artbook, as well as some in game bonuses such as a Griffin flying mount. A downloadable Collector's Edition will also be available for those who want only the exclusive in-game bonuses.
