Persona 3 Portable: Mutatsu (Tower) social link choices & unlock guide

If you’ve ever wanted to get to know a cigar-chomping, drink-loving Buddhist Monk, Persona 3 Portable has you covered with the Mutatsu social link, representing the Tower Arcana of Persona.

Mutatsu is one of the easier S-Links to accidentally miss in Persona 3, given there’s a few steps to unlocking and starting the relationship. This guide will help you to unlock and start the Mutatsu social link, and then offers up all the right dialogue options and choices to make sure you rank up the S-Link quickly. 

Mutatsu S-Link Guide - Tower

The Persona 3 Portable Mutatsu social link lets you get to know a cigar-chomping, hard-drinking monk. Here's what dialogue choices to pick to impress him.

Bald-headed old Mutatsu is your Tower social link in Persona 3 Portable for both the male and female versions of the P3 protagonist - and you’ll need to get to know this cigar-chomping man if you want to rank up the Tower Arcana to create stronger Persona. 

This guide is built for Persona 3 Portable, and will work okay for FES, too. If you're playing the new remake, we recommend heading to our Mutatsu guide for P3 Reload instead. 

In Persona 3 Portable, S-Link ranks slowly rise when you hang out based on an invisible stat - but if you pick the right dialogue options when spending time with a character, you’ll get bonus EXP towards that S-Link, in turn ranking it up more quickly. This guide covers all of those choices for the Mutatsu social link.

Any choices listed here grant bonus points, so you’ll want to choose the option with the highest value. Any choices not listed have no effect, meaning you can do what you want. The stats shown include the Arcana Bonus, which you get by having a Tower Persona in your party when spending time with Mutatsu.

  • You can find Mutatsu on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights at Club Escapade.

Unlock & Rank 1:

There’s some unique requirements to start off the Persona 3 Portable Mutatsu Social Link, and it varies depending on who you’re playing as.

Regardless of which protagonist you are, you’ll need Rank 4 in the Courage Social Stat to open up Mutatsu’s S-Link. Beyond that, however…

  • The Male Protagonist must reach Rank 4 in the Strength Social Link with Yuko, who’ll mention Mutatsu, though not by name.
  • The female lead needs to reach Rank 3 with the Chariot Social Link with Rio. She too will mention and introduce Mutatsu.
  • Once in the club, you’ll need to speak to the bartender, and help to take all of the customer’s drinks orders. Once you’ve done this and Mutatsu has been served his drink, the S-Link can begin.

When Mutatsu is your friend, his first rank progresses automatically, regardless of what you say to him.
