Assassin's Creed Odyssey Choices guide: how to get the Best Ending

Assassin's Creed Odyssey is really taking this whole role playing game thing seriously. Buried among the RPG tropes like stat and perk driven armor, romancable NPC characters and a choice of playable protagonists there's a larger choice-based system at play: nine different endings to the game, plus one ending that is without a doubt the best ending. To get that you'll have to make the right choices throughout the game.

How the story of Kassandra or Alexios ends is all down to you - but like BioWare RPGs, the ending you get isn't entirely based on one decision - though as Kazuma says in our Assassin's Creed Odyssey review, the game does clearly want to push you towards one, best ending. On this page, we're going to explain what choices to make in order to see said ending.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey Choices: how to get the best ending

First off, let's get the obvious out of the way - this guide will obviously contain ABSOLUTELY MASSIVE SPOILERS. Several beats of the main quest of Assassin's Creed Odyssey will be spoiled in this guide. You've been warned - how else are we going to show you what choices to make?

Okay, so, with that said - in order to get to that best ending in Assassin's Creed Odyssey, you'll need to follow a bunch of steps and make a bunch of specific decisions at certain branching points in the story in order to set events in motion towards that best permetation of the finale. Compared to some games the branches are rather simple, so there's only five Assassin's Creed Odyssey choices that'll impact the ending. Here's what you need to do:

  • In Chapter 2's "The Wolf of Sparta" quest, let Nikolaos live. You need both he and Stentor alive later on in the game, and choosing to kill Nikolaos offs both him and Stentor.
  • In Chapter 6, you'll find your Mother, Myrrine. When you chat to her, you'll need to tell her that you intend to try to save Deimos from the Cult of Kosmos.
  • In Chapter 7 you'll meet Nikolaos and Stentor again. When you do, convince Nikolaos to put himself between Stentor and you. You must not kill Stentor here, either.
  • In Chapter 8 you'll speak to Deimos, following up on your earlier promise. When you do, tell Deimos that they're being manipulated by the Cult of Kosmos. This is the only way forwards for the best ending.
  • Finally, in Chapter 9 you'll now be asked to fight Deimos. You must refuse to do so. So long as you've done the other steps above, this will mean that by the time you reach the end of the story your entire family will be alive - and that's the criteria for the best ending.

Best of luck on your path to the best ending - but remember, if you go wrong, any ending is totally valid - all nine have their own unique advantages.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey Choices: other branches to consider

As well as the ending, there are other quests with other branches. One major set of branching quests are of course the Assassin's Creed Odyssey romances, as you can choose to pursue or ignore as many of those as you like. There's also your choice of horse, which again is fairly inconsequential. Beyond that, specific quests have choices that often impact their rewards, or if nothing else act as a handy test of your moral fiber. Here's some we've found and their potential consequences:

Ashes to Ashes: Kill Chrysis or Save the Baby

In the Ashes to Ashes quest in chapter 5, you'll be faced with a major, painful choice - save an innocent baby from a raging fire, or pursue the evil Chrysis and put her out of commission forever. The baby is completely innocent, however, and to chase Chrysis ould be to condemn it to death.

There's no absolutely 'right' decision here, and no choice that results in a dramatically better reward for you, but consider this: if you save the baby, Chrysis will escape, but you'll have another chance to get even with her - she's one of the Worshippers of the Bloodline, so you'll naturally have to track her down again and take her out as part of that quest.
