Persona 5 Royal Futaba confidant guide: Hermit choices, romance & gifts

The cast of Persona 5 and Persona 5 Royal come in all shapes and sizes - and Futaba Sakura is a little more reticient than most, and so in the Velvet Room she appropriately represents the 9th Hermit.  If you progress the Futaba Confidant Cooperation relationship, you'll unlock new fusion options and bonuses for battle. This guide is here to help you do just that.

Below, we break down every conversation dialogue choice for every rank of the Futaba confidant hangout. Any choice that impacts your relationship is listed here - including those that let you romance Futaba, if that's what you want to do. While not in combat, she's technically a party member - and so there's a full Futaba confidant cooperation relationship and romance available.

Futaba Sakura Confidant Cooperation Guide - Hermit (L'Hermite - IX)

  • Location & Days Futaba is available: Once you've befriended her Futaba will be found hanging out outside LeBlanc. Futaba is available on Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday daytimes. She stays indoors when it rains.
  • Futaba Gifts: If you want to give Futaba a gift to boost your rank further she'll accept things like the Best of KGB49 CD or, if you're in a relationship, the Heart Necklace. A full list of gifts she likes can be found in our Persona 5 Confidant Gift Guide, and we list a few further gift suggestions at the end of this guide.
  • A side quest kicked off by the Sojiro Sakura confidant relationship can put a stop to the Futaba relationship progressing any further for a limited time - so keep that in mind.

Below, we list every relationship-increasing answer for every rank of Futaba's confidant cooperation. The numbers you see represent what gets added to an invisible stat that determines your rank - the higher the number, the better and the faster you'll level up. You'll also find the starting point of a romance relationship with Futaba listed below. Any question or option not listed has no impact, so simply go with your gut for those. 

Don't forget to have a Hermit Persona with you whenever you hang out with Futaba - this is the only way you can get the maximum points for each conversation choice! Futaba has some dialogue options exclusive to Persona 5 Royal - they're noted in this guide with a (P5R).

This guide will help you to breeze through all dialogue choices for the Futaba confidant relationship in Persona 5 Royal.

Rank 1:

  • On 8/31's nighttime you'll unlock this cooperation through story progression. 
  • All choices in this rank don't have any additional points; choose whatever you like.
  • Unlocks the Moral Support ability, giving Futaba a chance to cast Kaja or other party-healing magic mid-battle.
  • Unlocks the Akihabara location.

Rank 2:

Requires rank 4 (selfless) kindness. The date must also be after 9/2. Impactful Conversation Choices for this Rank:

  • But online classes are better for studying! I wouldn't even have to leave the house.
    • Option 2: "That's a great idea." +2
  • Do you think I'll be able to?
    • Option 1: "If we work together." +3
    • Option 2: "Want me to help?" +2
  • Phone Call (P5R): Do you think it'd make Sojiro happy?
    • Option 1: I bet it will." +2

Unlocks the Mementos Scan ability. With this, Futaba has a chance of fully mapping out a floor of Mementos on arrival.

If you notice you're getting 1 point less than we write here, make sure you have a Persona of the Hermit Arcana in your current stock. Doing that often provides bonus points, and this guide is written with the assumption that all events are approached with the right Persona in the party.

Unlocks the Position Hack skill - with this, Futaba can arrange for you to sometimes open a battle with a hold-up.

Unlocks the Active Support ability. With this, Moral Support can sometimes charge and recover SP too.

Rank 7:

  • Impactful conversation choices for this rank:
    • They're even selling the pictures now...

    • Please, help me save her!
      • Option 1: "I'll do it, for you." +3

Unlocks the Treasure Reboot ability. Also unlocks the Daughter's Just a Meal Ticket sidequest / request for Mementos. This must be completed before the next rank can be started.

Rank 8:

To initiate, complete the Daughter's Just a Meal Ticket sidequest/request in mementos - this was unlocked at the end of Futaba's confidant Rank 7. Impactful conversation choices for this rank:

  • Long story short... we made up! I finally apologized to her.
    • Option 1: "That's incredible." +3 
    • Option 2: "I'm glad to hear that." +3
    • Option 3: "Did you stutter at all?" +2
  • It's all because of you that I could do it!
    • Option 1: "You worked really hard, too." +3
    • Option 2: "You're making me blush..." +2
  • Phone Call (P5R): I'm so glad I cleared that goal.
    • Option 1: "Congrats." +2
    • Option 3: "Want more pats?" +2

Rank 9:

This is the point when a romance with Futaba Sakura becomes available. Impactful conversation choices for this rank:

  • I'm gonna go back.
    • Option 1: "You've really matured." +3
    • Option 2: "What if you get bullied again?" +2
  • Then even when we're apart, I can't stop thinking about you...
    • Option 2: "Are you OK, Futaba?" +3
    • Option 3: "You're imagining things." +2
  • ...Can we skip that last promise?

  • Why...?
    • Friendship - Option 1: "Because we're teammates."

Unlocks the Emergency Shift ability, giving Futaba the ability to potentially swap out some party members when two or more are KOed.

Rank 10:

  • Any choices you make will be irrelevant, since this is the max rank.
  • Unlocks Final Guard, which has a chance to completely nullify an otherwise fatal attack.
  • Unlocks Ongyo-Ki for fusion.
  • Unlocks Second Awakening, evolving Futaba's Persona to its final form, Prometheus.

Best gifts for Futaba in Persona 5 Royal

Giving Futaba the right gifts can speed up how quickly you advance her confidant cooperation in Persona 5 Royal.

Another helpful key to advancing the Persona 5 Royal Futaba confidant, beyond making choices, is gifts. Gifts can be purchased from the various shops around the game, as detailed in our Persona 5 Gifts guide, and each gift given can enhance a relationship. 

Each character has their own taste in gifts, and Futaba is no different. We suggest going to the full gift guide for a full list, but here's a handful of the gifts that are especially effective on her:

  • Best of KGB49: This CD gives a +3 point boost to your relationship. Get it from the Underground Mall.
  • Dragon Sword Keychain: Perfect for the nerd in your life, this cheap Keychain is worth +3 confidant points with Futaba.
  • Uju Matcha Flan: While only worth +2 points, Futaba has a unique dialogue reaction to this gift. Buy it from the Shibuya Underground Mall.
  • Local Mascot Set: Hand this over for a +3 confidant relationship boost, plus some unique dialogue from Futaba. You can get it in Akihabara.
  • Snack Pack: +3 points when gifted; buy it from Shibuya Central Street.
  • Heart Ring / Necklace: These two items can only be given to Futaba if you're pursuing a romance, and both are worth a +3 boost and unique dialogue - but they are expensive.
