How to reach the golden treasure chest at Hachijo in Nioh 3's Heian period map
With Nioh 3 having implemented an unlockable collectibles map via the Exploration Level, players should be able to locate most of the collectibles without relying on guides. However, there happens to be one specific chest that cannot be found just by looking at the map, as the latter only projects the surface.
That's right, we're talking about the golden treasure chest icon located at the center of Hachijo in the Heian period map. You may be wondering about this because you won't find any accessible chest or Spirit Vein at the same spot on the surface. And we also note that this chest has absolutely nothing to do with the major Crucible area. If you want to know how to get to this spot, this guide will point you in the right direction.
How to reach this Golden Treasure Chest
Before you can even think of reaching this spot, you have to first reach the Enemy Base at Anneibo Temple to the east. However, direct access from the central area will not be available at first, so you will first have to take a detour through the southern filthy water area.
It also goes without saying that you ought to clear the Enemy Base once you have reached the place, because it will also let you unlock the temple's Shrine. In fact, the entry to the spot in this topic is directly related to the very Shrine in question.
After praying in the Shrine, turn left and head to the raised wooden platform across the pond. From there, you should be able to jump towards the roofs and eventually reach the top side of the wooden platform opposite the shrine.
Once you have reached this spot, you can Kick Down the log to create an easier shortcut between the Shrine and the secret area. You can then continue further to the now-known underground zone, which will definitely host the thing symbolized by the golden treasure chest icon.
The next segment will divulge details of the golden chest zone, but obviously it will have a Major Spoiler Warning in effect. If you only need details for the route without spoiling the remaining content, you may want to stop here. We have also provided the contents of the map-marked Amrita spirit, which includes Ninja's Locks, as a buffer.
Details on the Golden Treasure Chest - Spoiler Warning
It turns out that the 'golden treasure chest' is not a chest after all, just like all others with the same icon. What awaits you at this spot is instead a secret boss who goes by the name Demon of Envy. If you are having trouble defeating this boss, take note that we recorded the boss' item drops at Level 90.
Successfully defeating the Demon of Envy will grant you a bonus background cutscene as well as the real reward from the 'golden chest': A Fire-element Transformed Art of Arc of Chaos for the Switchglaive weapon.
By the way, the Spirit Vein icon provides the method for you to use Kurama Tengu's power to hop from the boss zone back to the overworld, without having to access a shrine's fast travel.
