Final Fantasy VII Remake's definitive edition is coming to PS5 June 10

Final Fantasy VII Remake is coming to the next generation with a new version of the game - and it's even been retitled as Final Fantasy VII Remake: Intergrade.

Described by Square Enix as a definitive edition of the ambitious remake of the 1997 classic, the new version will feature new content on PS5, and significant performance improvements on the PS5 platform.

The PlayStation 5 version will feature a choice between a performance or graphics mode, with the former offering 60 frames-per-second gameplay at 1440p resolution and the graphics mode bumping the resolution to 4K - but with a reduced frame rate.

Players can enjoy new content. As shown in the trailer, at least one chunk of the new content involves a new side-story episode starring Yuffie Kisaragi, the beloved optional FF7 party member who doesn't make an appearance in Midgar in the original game. This new episode is a PS5-only experience.

Also shown are scenes that clearly take place concurrently with chapter 8 of FF7 Remake, when Cloud is separated from her and on adventures with Aerith in the wake of the second Mako Reactor mission - though it's not entirely clear if this is part of the Yuffie story, or something else entirely. In post-release interviews, FF7R staff revealed that content showing Tifa and Barret's fate immediately after the Airbuster Battle was planned for the original release but ultimately didn't make the cut.

In addition, the new version of the game gets various quality-of-life changes like changes to make setting your Materia load-out easier. There are also new trophies, a new boss battle, new arena challenges, a boss replay mode, and even a photo mode.

Final Fantasy VII Remake: Intergrade will launch on June 10th for PS5. If you own the original version of FF7 Remake for PS4, you'll get an upgrade with the various quality of life changes and improvements to the game free of charge - but you'll have to pay for the new Yuffie chapter content. Alternatively, FF7 Remake Intergrade will be sold separately. PlayStation's 'first on PS' exclusivity ends on April 10th, too - but it's as yet unclear if Intergrade will appear on PC or Xbox as well.
