Baldur's Gate 3 update brings Barbarian class, upgraded cinematics, and UI Overhaul to Steam today

In another update live show, the team at Larian Studios detailed today's Baldur's Gate 3 patch with demonstrations of the Barbarian class, weapon changes, upgraded cinematics, and a UI overhaul. The developer also noted this patch brings its RPG closer to a 1.0 launch, with expectations to release out of Early Access in 2023.

During today's Panel from Hell, Larian Studios revealed its new Barbian class and two subclasses, Wildheart and Berserker. The Wildheart option brings a tree of choices to protect and guide Barbian players - impacting their character through physical changes, like piercings, as well as various combat ability options. Beserkers will rely upon rage and frenzy, gaining two bonus actions inspired by their more furious nature.

You'll also be able to start chunking whatever's within reach at foes, as Baldur's Gate 3 brings Improvised Weapons with today's patch. Stats will impact how this works, so you can't go grabbing giant rocks to hurl with low strength, but beef up enough and the RPG opens up a world of would-be weapons. The lengthy list documenting every changed coming with patch seven is up already over on Steam, but if you're looking for a highlighted list of more additions:

  • Throwable daggers, javelins, handaxes, and spears
  • Upgraded UI includes sleek quality of life changes
  • Exploration improvements geared at tweaked light and dark detection
  • Upgraded visuals to over 700 cutscenes
  • New Room Portal system
  • Magic Loot with new equipment and additional perks added to the world
  • New music, including added pieces to the Character Creator playlist
  • QOL changes, like rejoining multiplayer sessions with an old character

The list of balance, bug fixes, audio changes, and general visual improvements is quite hefty, but despite such sizeable patch drops, Lariannoted Baldur's Gate 3 will remain in Early Access for a while.

"Our internal goal post for release is a quality bar rather than a date," a press release from a Larian Studios spokesperson read. "A ton of progress has been made towards that quality bar over the past year in Early Access, but we know many players are waiting for an actual date. That date will come when we’re even closer to meeting our goal, but right now our expectation is that Baldur’s Gate 3 will be released out of Early Access in 2023."
