The Use of Life now available on Steam Early Access

Playism and Daraneko Games have today released 'Adventure Book-Style' RPG The Use of Life for Steam Early Access.

The Use of Life features several decisions made by the player with a TRPG-style dice rolling mechanic, along with traditionally-styled JRPG combat mechanics. While player choice is a key component of the game, it is emphasized that there is no strictly “good” or “bad” ending. The Early Access period is expected to run for about 12-18 months.

A new trailer and description can be found below, via Playism. More information and screenshots can be found in the announcement details from January 2022.

The Use of Life is a solo-developed indie game created in the image of a “choose your own adventure book” with multi-ending capabilities. The Early Access version will be released on Steam on 21st May, 2022, allowing players to play up to the second chapter of the game. The decisions that you make in chapter 1 will bring about significantly different outcomes in chapter 2, so choose wisely.

Developer Daraneko Games will keep a close eye on user feedback/requests as development for the full version continues. There will be regular updates for bug fixes, quality improvements and game balance optimizations during the game’s Early Access. The first major update is currently planned to include:

  • Main scenario updates – new chapters for each story branch
  • Implementation of advanced classes
  • Implementation of a battle-to-the-death game mode

Players are able to send their feedback and suggestions to the developer in-game, while specific Steam threads will also be set up for players to share their thoughts on.

*Please note that the saved data from the demo version does not carry over to the Early Access version.
