Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name unveiled for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC and launches in 2023

RGG Studio and Sega announced Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name at RGG Summit 2022. The title will be coming to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC (Steam, Windows) in 2023.

It serves as a side-story in the Like a Dragon (formerly known as Yakuza) series that focuses on what happened to series protagonist Kazuma Kiryu after the events of Yakuza 6: The Song of Life and before the events of Yakuza: Like a Dragon.

The announcement trailer opens at Daidoji Temple in Summer 2018 in-game. Kiryu now goes under the name of Joryu and is meditating before being disciplined by a monk. The monk is frustrated that Kiryu is still shackled by his worldly desires, despite giving up his name and existence.

A mysterious individual goes up to Kiryu later informing him of a job. It'll involve "escorting a certain individual."

Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name will not be a turn-based RPG and will return to the classic beat 'em up brawler style that the Yakuza series had when Kiryu was its primary protagonist.

RGG Studio mentioned that Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name will be similiar to The Kaito Files DLC to Lost Judgment; although it will be bigger in scope than that, it'll still roughly be half the size of a regular Like a Dragon game.

Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name is meant to appease long-time Like a Dragon series fans that had questions on Kazuma Kiryu's involvement in Yakuza: Like a Dragon. Plus, this side-story game will let those who started the series with Yakuza: Like a Dragon be informed of who Kiryu is before going into the newly announced Like a Dragon 8 in 2024.

The development studio recommended to play Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name first before Like a Dragon 8.
