Vindictus: Defying Fate starts its open Pre-Alpha playtest on March 13 through Steam

Nexon and Neople have detailed how to join the Vindictus: Defying Fate Pre-Alpha playtest when it goes live on March 13; they first announced details of the playtest upon revealing the game last week.. A new trailer was also released to showcase more of the single-player RPG in action.

Here are the steps in order to participate in the Vindictus: Defying Fate Pre-Alpha playtest:

  • Login to Steam
  • Visit the Steam Store Page for Vindictus: Defying Fate when the playtest goes live on March 13 18:00 PDT
  • Click the 'Request Access' button on the Store Page
  • Click the 'Game Play' button on the Store Page
  • Download Vindictus: Defying Fate Playtest from the library and run the game

Of course, the Pre-Alpha playtest does not represent the final state of the game; it is a very early build of the game that is still in development. There are two playable characters, Fiona and Lann.

Fiona has a defensive playstyle as she utilizes a shield to block incoming attacks and strikes as the enemy leaves themselves open. Meanwhile, Lann is a relatively more mobile fighter that relies on swiftly dodging attacks to complement his aggressive offensive style.

Following their incredible reveal in February, Nexon is pleased to show even more of Vindictus: Defying Fate, their upcoming fast-paced action RPG, to their buzzing community with a free, public pre-alpha playtest. The test will provide access to a build of the game still in a very early stage of development and feature a demo-level play of combat with two playable characters, Fiona and Lann, regions based on early-world concepts, emotes, and outfits for testing purposes. The public pre-alpha test will start on Wednesday, March 13, at 18:00 PDT, and will be available until Monday, March 18 at 01:00 PDT through Steam.

Given Vindictus: Defying Fate is currently going through an early development phase, future updates will introduce more content, including narrative elements, a growth system, character stats, items, and more. This is the first chance for players to get hands-on with the game and provide feedback to Nexon on what they love, or would like to see change. To participate, players only need to visit the Vindictus: Defying Fate Steam page and sign up for the pre-alpha test by following the below steps:

  • Log into Steam with your Steam ID and go to the VIndictus: Defying Fate Store Page
  • Click the 'Request Access' button on the Store Page
  • Click the 'Game Play' button on the Store Page
  • Download Vindictus: Defying Fate Playtest from the library and run the game
  • You do not have to add the game to your wishlist to play, but we hope you will as it is the best place to learn more about the game, get the latest, updated news, game guides, and more!

The development team encourages all players to provide feedback, either during or after playing the test,  by joining Vindictus: Defying Fate’s official Discord server and sharing what they enjoyed and what they would like to see change. Feedback from players at this stage of development will help shape the final game and is greatly appreciated. 

Lann and Fiona

Players may remember Fiona from the game reveal trailer back in February. She is a versatile fighter armed with a longsword and shield as her weapons of choice. Fiona is ideal for players who prefer a more defensive playstyle, using her shield to guard against incoming damage while leaving her opponents open to counter-attacks. Her “heavy stander” unique skill with the shield allows her to block all incoming damage from all sources, but only for a limited time. 

Lann is a dual sword-wielding battler, whose lightning-fast reflexes allow him to dodge attacks while swiftly retaliating back at his opponent. The returning fan-favorite from Vindictus (2010), focuses primarily on offensive skills and will likely be the champion of choice for those players aiming to to go all in with an aggressive playstyle. Make him angry enough and unleash “Lann’s fury”, a unique skill that enables him to rush past the enemy along with a devastatingly strong slash attack.
