Metaphor: ReFantazio begins the journey to become a king on October 11

Atlus has finally unveiled that the release date of its highly anticipated turn-based / real-time hybrid RPG Metaphor: ReFantazio  will be on October 11 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam) worldwide simultaneously. This was revealed in a new trailer titled "The King's Trial" that debuted in the Atlus Exclusive showcase stream to open up the 26-minute presentation.

Katsura Hashino, the director of Metaphor: ReFantazio, provided a detailed look at Atlus's brand-new IP. As he informed players on what they can expect upon beginning the game, one of the most amusing moments is when the game's soundtrack stays totally silent until Gallica, the main character's fairy companion, casts a spell on him so he can now hear the soundtrack of the game in his head and thus, the music is now audible to players.

Hashino noted that those familiar with the Persona series should know the composer of this title, Shoji Meguro, due to his iconic pop-style that defined the more modern installments of those games. With Metaphor: ReFantazio, he urged Meguro to break out from the style he'd utilize for Persona and take this RPG in a new direction sound-wise.

Throughout the presentation, Hashino stressed that he wouldn't consider Metaphor: ReFantazio an open world title. Rather, the backgrounds make maps feel expansive but traversing cities, for instance, is divided up into smaller zones that players can instantly fast travel between. Since this fantasy RPG revolves around constant traversal, the player's main hub moves from city to city. In this Atlus Exclusive event, they unveiled a new town called Martira - a relatively more simplistic village locale compared to the Royal Capital that they've shown in previous trailers.

A plethora of activities are available to players not only in towns and cities, but also in the Gauntlet Runner vehicle as they travel to another locale or a dungeon. While in a dungeon, people can immediately vanquish lower-leveled foes out on the field. If they manage to ambush a higher-leveled foe, they can damage it in real-time combat before it switches into a more traditional turn-based layout.

One particular unique feature that sets Metaphor: ReFantazio apart from other Atlus RPGs are its job system with the Archetypes. When players forge a bond with other characters by having them become Followers to his cause, players can unlock new class Archetypes to expand their options in gameplay. Every single character can change their Archetype - if the player wants, they can even all take up the same Archetype.
