Deck13 reveals a major overhaul to Atlas Fallen with the upcoming free Reign of Sand update coming August 6
Developer Deck13 and publisher Focus Interactive have revealed an upcoming free update for action RPG Atlas Fallen called Reign of Sand that brings a plethora of major overhauled systems, mechanics, and new content; the updated is slate to release on August 6 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam). They first mentioned that this overhaul was coming last December.
The Reign of Sand update introduces new enemies into the base game, along with an entirely new area integrated into the campaign, as well. There will be several quality-of-life enhancements, including camera improvements according to Deck13 in a new video that provides a first introduction to the Reign of Sand update.
Another point that Deck13 emphasize is the Reign of Sand update will bring story improvements, especially to the start of the game in which Adam criticized the game's poor starting sequence in his review.
Those that have completed Atlas Fallen already can now access a New Game+ mode, though players who have not finished Atlas Fallen can carry their save over to the Reign of Sand update immediately. Still, the developers have recommended players to start a new playthrough to see all the improvements they've made in their totality.

As a replacement of the base game, this major, completely free overhaul will be available as an update across all platforms, ensuring that every player, whether they are current, returning or newcomers, can dive into the enhanced version of the game. While you'll be able to carry over the progress you made on your old character like the equipment and the loadout to Reign of Sand, to fully immerse in the breadth of new features and improvements, starting a new playthrough is highly recommended for the optimal experience.
