Metroidvania action RPG Blighted announced for consoles and PC to be released in 2026
DrinkBox Studios, the developers behind Guacamelee! and Nobody Saves the World, have pulled back the curtains on their brand-new Metroidvania action RPG Blighted. It is slated to release in 2026 on PC and consoles, though the specific console platforms have yet to be announced.
The developers have described it as a "psychedelic western nightmare" that players can play solo or co-op. People will gradually earn "Blight" as they defeat foes, which can alter the world, change up enemy encounters, reveal secret paths, and more.
Blighted involves a tale of memories as the dead in its world are planeted with seeds that would grow into trees imbued with fruit containing the deceased's memories. Generations of knowledge is passed down through this tradition, until an individual Sorcisto began to violate it through eating raw brains. Sorcisto proceeded to infect the world with Blight after after destroying the main character's village and burning down a forest of memory trees. Take control of the lone survivor of this village and take back the generations of memories passed down.
