Square Enix: The next Final Fantasy XIII project has just recently started

As previously reported, Square Enix will be hosting a special Lightning Saga stage at their upcoming anniversary event on September 1st.

Speaking in this week’s Famitsu, producer Yoshinori Kitase shed a little more light on the situation to come. Kitase says that the project has “just recently started,” and that the project’s official title will be named at the event. This might suggest the game in question might not exactly be called “Final Fantasy XIII-3″ or arrive on a different platform given Toriyama’s comments earlier in the year about not having selected such for his new project.

The Final Fantasy 25th anniversary event runs from August 31st through September 2nd in Japan.
