Demeo X Dungeons & Dragons: Battlemarked Book 2 is taking players to Icewind Dale
I love me some Dungeons & Dragons, and I had an absolute blast with the VR roguelike, Demeo, so when it was announced that Resolution Games was pairing with Wizards of the Coast for a D&D-inspired follow-up to Demeo, I was all in. Demeo X Dungeons & Dragons: Battlemarked incorporates elements including familiar classes from the TTRPG like Paladins and Rogues, classic spells and abilities, and campaigns full of intrigue and monsters. Up until now, Resolution Games had only shown off and talked about the first book releasing with Battlemarked, Embers of Chaos, taking place in and around the city of Neverwinter. Now, the Magical Darkness has been dispelled with the reveal of Book 2, The Crown of Frost.
Crown of Frost takes place shortly after the events of the conclusion of Embers of Chaos, picking up far to the north of Neverwinter in the icy regions of Icewind Dale near the Spine of the World, another Forgotten Realms classic. The description of this second campaign is as follows,
“In this campaign, your band of heroes enters as Icewind Dale is bracing for war. Armies are gathering at Frost Keep, and there have been sightings of a Frost Giant where they shouldn’t be found. Heading into the perilous cold of a world populated by dire wolves and other cold-weathered foes, players will journey from the downtrodden streets of Ten Town’s Lonelywood to the dizzying heights of the Spine of the World. Along the way, players should prepare to find friends and foes among giants, ravens, goblins, kobolds, slaadi, and more.“
I had a chance to speak a bit with Battlemarked’s narrative lead and Wizard’s former Lore Master, Matt Sernett, to hear a bit more about how Crown will differ from Embers of Chaos in terms of their stories. “I would say that book one is a little bit more serious. It has its comedic elements, of course, but you start that story, in the midst of a looming war, like, there's, there's to do people that should be allies are about to go to war with one another. You're trying to figure out who's behind it, why, and stop that conflict,” Matt continues, “Book two is similar in that there is also another sort of looming potential war. But in this case, the enemies are gathering in the mountains, and your characters are sent to disrupt their war preparations. It [Book 2] doesn't necessarily lend itself to wacky hijinks. But it is a slightly lighter tone in that respect. When you go to some of those places where you're expecting to find war preparations being made, you find some dumb goblins, or you find some really, really dumb kobolds, you know, or something like that.”
Battlemarked offers a very similar simplified RPG and dungeon-delving experience that will be instantly recognizable to anyone who has previously played Demeo. This time, though, as opposed to strictly having players explore progressively more dangerous dungeons, teams of up to four players (crossplay is available between all platforms, too) will be making skill checks, taking on side quests, and digging deeper into stories of the included campaigns. In addition to dangerous dungeons, too, of course! In the final release, you will be able to level up and customize your characters somewhat, from their name, colors, and equipping them with special artifacts that will also appear on their little miniature.
Both Embers of Chaos and Crown of Frost are included when Battlemarked launches on November 20 for PC (VR & Desktop), Meta Quest, PS5, and PSVR2.
Press Release
‘Crown of Frost’ Revealed as Second Campaign to Launch with Demeo x DUNGEONS & DRAGONS: Battlemarked on November 20
Second campaign joins the previously announced Embers of Chaos for day-one play across PC, PlayStation and Meta
STOCKHOLM, NOVEMBER 4, 2025 — Following the world premier demo of Demeo x DUNGEONS & DRAGONS: Battlemarked’s first campaign, ‘Embers of Chaos,’ during the most recent Steam Next Fest, Resolution Games today revealed what’s in store for the second half of the game at its November 20 launch across Steam, PlayStation and Meta Quest. In this digital fantasy tabletop adventure that allows players to experience the magic of D&D like never before, Book 2: ‘Crown of Frost’ will take players into an all new campaign that lies to the far north of the Forgotten Realms for an adventure that’s as deep in intrigue and battle as it is in snow.
“I’ve always believed D&D’s power lies in its places as much as its protagonists,” said Matt Sernett, Narrative Designer on Battlemarked and former Writer and Game Designer at Wizards of the Coast with a passion for lore creation. “Icewind Dale, Ten Towns, Frost Keep: these are not just backdrops, but characters in their own right. Setting a story here, in contrast to our already announced campaign that features settings like Neverwinter Wood and Cragmaw Castle, gives us the ability to deliver two full campaigns at launch that honor the breadth of adventure to be found in the Forgotten Realms.”
