Breath of Fire IV now available on Steam
Capcom has announced that Breath of Fire IV now available on Steam. This reveal comes alongside the announcement that the first three Resident Evil titles are also available for Steam.
All four games had been added to GOG.com prior over the last few years, and GOG.com is also listed on the newly-opened Steam pages under the Developer label.
However, it appears that the Steam and GOG versions of Breath of Fire IV are not perfectly equivalent. By default, the PC version of the game has a forced bilinear smoothing placed over the pixel art. The GOG version was quickly updated after its release last year to offer a Point Sampled option to allow the pixel graphics to appear less smudgy and more similar to the PS1 version of the game. However, this option is seemingly absent from the Steam release, meaning the smoothing effect cannot be removed.
Here's a comparison between the GOG version (Point Sampled) and Steam versions. The game was running at 4K with aspect ratio correction set "On" in each case.
The announcement from Capcom can be found below.
