Cyberpunk 2077's PS5 Pro upgrade is now available featuring three visual modes

CD Projekt Red has released a free Cyberpunk 2077 PS5 Pro update today for all PS5 owners bringing in three new visual modes.

Cyberpunk 2077 on PS5 Pro now offers Ray Tracing Pro, Ray Tracing, and Performance modes with different performance targets. Cyberpunk 2077 will also use the upgraded PSSR upscaling as revealed before. The update download size is 7.877GB for the base game and 1.789GB for Phantom Liberty on PS5.

Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition is now available on Nintendo Switch 2 and macOS. Cyberpunk 2077 is currently available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC platforms. Read my thoughts on Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition for Switch 2 here.

Starting today, PS5 Pro owners can download the free update to Cyberpunk 2077, which makes full use of the console’s hardware to provide optimized performance, enhanced visual fidelity with upgraded PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), advanced ray tracing features, and more. The update is designed to leverage the full capabilities of the hardware, providing even greater immersion when exploring the dark future.

The free update also contains three graphics modes for players to choose from. Performance Mode delivers the highest possible frame rate for those who prioritize fast, fluid gameplay, while Ray Tracing Pro delivers the full range of available ray tracing enhancements. Striking a middle ground between the two other modes, Ray Tracing offers a balance between visuals and performance. The full list of features can be found in the recently published patch notes.

Since July, Cyberpunk 2077 has been available to play for free through the PlayStation Plus Catalog for Extra and Premium members, and now those playing on PlayStation 5 Pro will be able to see the new update in action for themselves. Ahead of the release, Digital Foundry also tested the PS5 Pro Update; their impressions and in-depth analysis are already available.

Cyberpunk 2077 PS5 Pro update patch notes

Added a PlayStation 5 Pro version of the game, optimized to take advantage of the console’s hardware for smoother gameplay and enhanced visual quality:

  • Adds support for PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR). PSSR is an AI-powered upscaling technology dedicated for PlayStation 5 Pro. The image is rendered at a lower resolution, then uses PSSR to upscale it, allowing you to maintain high performance.
  • Includes optimized ray-traced object queries and improved ray-tracing cache to reduce shadow popping.
  • Implements BVH8 (8-way Bounding Volume Hierarchy) support to enhance the performance and efficiency of ray-traced lighting, shadows, and reflections.
  • Implements the VRS (Variable Rate Shading) algorithm for optimized shading.
  • Introduces 3 Graphics Modes:
  • Ray Tracing Mode enables ray-traced reflections on vehicle paint and transparent objects, with all shadows rendered using ray tracing, at a stable 60 FPS. This is the default setting and our recommended way to experience the game on PlayStation 5 Pro.
  • Performance Mode ensures smooth gameplay, targeting 60 FPS on regular display, and up to 90 FPS on VRR-enabled displays.
  • Ray Tracing Pro Mode adds ray-traced skylight, ray-traced emissive lighting and ray-traced ambient occlusion, running at 40 FPS on displays with high refresh rates (HFR). If your display does not support HFR, it targets 30 FPS instead.
