1988 PC-8801mkIISR version of Elthlead ported to Nintendo Switch via EGG Console

D4 Enterprise has released a new EGG Console port for Nintendo Switch based on the PC-8801mkIISR version of the classic strategy RPG Elthlead. The port is available on Nintendo eShops worldwide, including in the US storefront at $6.49.

The official descriptions published by the company may contain some discrepancies, though. Several ports of Elthlead are also available on the Japanese Project EGG platform for PC, but it consists of the PC-8801 version that came out in 1987 and the MSX2 version from 1988. In addition, extreme Co., Ltd. only acquired the game's actual publisher Masaya Games more recently in 2014—this brand was originally owned by Nippon Computer Systems.

You can find the official gameplay trailer, descriptions, and screenshots for the Elthlead port right below.

Originally released in 1988 by extreme, this strategy RPG casts you as King Sieghart of Elthlead. Your mission is to defeat Bozel, the King of Velzeria, and restore peace to the continent of Gaia.

The game alternates between an Area Map for troop movement and a Tactical Map for unit-to-unit combat upon encountering the enemy. You must lead a diverse army—including Grandinos (Earth Dragons), Falcon Knights, Light Knights, Fighters, Archers, and White Dragons—to overcome the opposing forces.

While the core system is a straightforward battle for military supremacy, mastering tactical elements like terrain defense bonuses and area-of-effect magic is the true key to conquering the game.
