The Expanse: Osiris Reborn showcases new default look and voice for the male protagonist in short video
Owlcat Games has shared a new The Expanse: Osiris Reborn video showcasing the new default face and voice of the male protagonist.
The male protagonist will now be voiced by voice actor Blythe Melin after player feedback from beta made Owlcat recast the role. If you haven't kept up with it, Hayes had a chance to get an early hands-on with the closed beta, and you can read his impressions here. He also had a chance to talk to interview Owlcat Games about adapting the series, high-risk combat, shaping the narrative, companions, and more. The new face and voice video and more can be found below via Owlcat Games
Owlcat Games is pleased to introduce the new default face and voice ofThe Expanse: Osiris Reborn’s male protagonist. The Captain and by extension his twin brother J received a new standard design that makes them fit into the world of the Expanse more organically. Furthermore, Blythe Melin has joined the team as the male Captain’s and J’s new voice.
While the main character in The Expanse: Osiris Reborn is fully customizable, it is still important to have a default look players can use as a basis for their own captain. The developers have redesigned the male captain’s model to give him a less standard military personnel design with more detail and polish for players to work with. His handsome appearance is also matched by his new voice, brought to life by voice actor Blythe Melin, who previously worked on titles like Genshin Impact, Honkai Star Rail, Diablo IV, Ready or Not, and more. Blythe doesn’t just take over as the captain, he also voices his more carefree and relaxed identical twin J.
For those looking forward to learning who will voice the rest of the cast, more details about the female protagonist and the other team members will be revealed at a later date.
"Voicing both the Captain and J has been an incredible joy and a unique challenge compared to the rest of my work voicing in video games over the years. TWO, biologically related characters! It presented a difficult task in itself, because I find it very important to make sure neither character felt one-note-ey or too similar to the other. The more a character talks, especially in a multi-path dialogue route like for this game, the harder the task of making characters feel fleshed out while still having their own flavors and mannerisms”, says Blythe Melin. “Playing twins has definitely been tricky, but there is somewhat of an easy divide that can be made between the Captain and J, in that one is an avatar for the player themselves, and the other is a pre-established co-character within the context of The Expanse. This allowed us to give J more of a solidified personality to work off of, with a lot of credit going to the writers and directors."
The Expanse: Osiris Reborn launches on PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG, and on console via Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 in spring 2027.
