New information on The Legend of Grimrock 2

The original Legend of Grimrock wowed gamers in 2012 with its throwback to old-school, first-person dungeon crawler goodness.  Since then, fans have eagerly been awaiting The Legend of Grimrock 2.  Not much has been revealed about the new title... but today, a blog post on Grimrock.net has given starved fans some new tidbits to get them excited for the new dungeon crawler.

First, a little information about the setting itself.  The Legend of Grimrock 2 will take place on the island of Nex, wherein four prisoners are forced to explore.  There is clearly more to the island than meets the eye, and players will uncover the island's secrets while trying to survive.  The island also allows this entry to feature many different locales in a "smaller" area, so players will have a variety of locales to look at (and surely a wider variety of traps and natural threats).

Also, it looks like enemy AI is going to be tweaked a lot in this sequel.  To quote the post:

One of the few things some reviewers criticized about Grimrock 1 was monster behavior in combat. We have attacked this problem directly and rewritten the monster AI entirely. As a result monsters are now smarter and they know how to use their larger numbers to their advantage. The repertoire of tricks they know has been expanded greatly. For example, some monsters can call other monsters for help and can use group tactics against you. Of course the behavior of monsters depends on their intelligence so the most stupid and most fierce monsters are still, well, fierce and stupid as they should be.

The skill and items systems are also getting revamped, with the skill system allowing for increased character customization, and the items themselves having secondary powers.  Potion mixing and spellcasting are becoming a little less tedious, each becoming easier to access and requiring less mouse clicks to use.

Finally, it's important to note all the new additions to Grimrock 2: A new playable race and a new class, more spells and items, a day/night cycle, new locales, and the possibility of even more new content.  Take a look at the released screenshots to get a feel for some of the locales in the game:
