Meet the other side of Arnas in Yoru no Nai Kuni

Koei Tecmo Games has published new information on Gust's upcoming RPG, Yoru no Nai Kuni, on 4Gamer. The flow of battle, Arnas's ability to transform, and new characters are introduced below.

Protect Lyuritis from the Jayou!

Battles in Yoru no Nai Kuni go through the following steps:

1) Summon demons that have formed a contract with Arnas. By spending SP, it is possible to summon one or more demons out on the battlefield.

2) Command demons and utilize their special skills. Several command lines can be used to alter the behavior of Arnas's summoned minions such as "Fight freely!" or "Fight together!" Efficiently issuing commands allows players to continually launch attacks and even set up their own demons as decoys. Plus, each summoned ally has a unique special skill that can be used to cause different effects.

3) Attack with Arnas herself with weak, strong, and special attacks from her weapon. Landing consecutive hits builds up a "Chain"  that unlocks a handful of benefits, such as filling up Arnas's "Transformation Gauge."

4) Once the Transformation Gauge is full, Arnas's summoned demons will lend her their power so she can transform. Plus, her appearance completely changes as well.

5) Vary up your fighting style and strategy by switching weapons during battle to expose enemy weaknesses.

Awaken the power of Arnas's blood by initiating Transformation!

Due to being exposed to the Ruler of the Night's blood, Arnas is no longer completely human. Filling up the Transformation Gauge in combat lets Arnas access her ultimate triumph card, Transformation.

Aside from just completely changing her apperance, Arnas can take on different forms during Transformation and also affects her summon demons too.

The following effects occur once Transformation is triggered:

  • Attacks now cover a wider range and Arnas travels much faster. Access new combos that were not possible during Arnas's normal state.
  • The power of all allies out in combat have been increased. Status boosts will be applied and a powerful aura around them will reflect their newfound power.
  • On the HUD, the Transformation Gauge can be found in the bottom left corner indicated by a curved meter to the left side of Arnas's portrait image. Attacking enemies continuously will build it up overtime.
  • Formation is the key to deciding what Transformation form Arnas will take up. Mix and match different subordinate demon types and formations to see what else Arnas can turn into.

Arnas's blood can also be used to form weapons!

Several weapons have been detailed. Each weapon has its fair share of strengths and weaknesses so players must be wary of what foes Arnas fights and switch weapons to properly fight them.

  • Sword: This well-balanced blade has a moderate amount of attack speed and attack range which allows it to cover any situation efficiently. It is the weapon that Arnas starts out with.
  • Gun: Special bullets allow Arnas to buff the attack power of her summoned demons along with another set of bullets that can be fired to replenish HP.
  • War Hammer: Taller than Arnas, the war hammer may be slow, but its attack power is incredibly high. Its attacks have the ability to completely knock away enemies.

Alter the abilities of Arnas's summoned allies by switching weapons!

Changing up weapons opens up certain abilities of specific allies. Completely revamp the status of the battle by taking into account an ally's special skills and abilities tied to each weapon. Some of these weapon-dependent abilities include:

  • Wielding the Gun accesses the ability: Total Vanguard - Arnas's minions take up a much more defensive stance to protect her by holding the Jayou away in order for Arnas to fire at the enemy from a safe distance.
  • Wielding the War Hammer accesses the ability: Stun Attack - Arnas's minions are now able to stun foes with their own attacks and thus, stunned enemes will be susceptible to a crushing blow from the gigantic weapon.

Meet two new Demons that can be recruited with a contract!

The Wood Golem (left) focuses on defense with the ability to lure in and attract enemies with a special war cry which makes it a an effective shield for Arnas. Meanwhile the Bisque (right) possesses the ability to warp from various sets of distances to erect barriers and loop punches.

Finally, a mysterious female ghost and a not-so-mysterious manager are introduced!

The final piece of Yoru no Nai Kuni news acquaints everyone with two new characters: Christophoros and Simon.

Christophoros (CV: Tomoyo Kurosawa)

A resident of the opera house, this masked ghost is seen wielding a baton to perform an orchestra filled with doom and ruin. Those who dare listen are often met with death. She offers Arnas a bit of advice though her motives remain unknown.

Simon (CV: Masaki Terasoma)

Tending to a hotel and cafe, Simon has an uncanny sense of timing when it comes to offering his guests with a drink. His workplace is associated with the same organization as Arnas, so he carries a supporting role for her.
