Our first good look at Tales of Berseria

Courtesy of ANN, we have the first look at Bandai Namco's next entry in their mothership series with Tales of Berseria. The latest Weekly Shonen Jump sheds light on the female protagonist Velvet (voiced by Rina Satou, who was Presa in Tales of Xillia) and the world she inhabits.

The story is set in the kingdom of Midgand which is surrounded by extensive land and archipelagos whose climate swings heavily from harsh winters to unbearable summers. The citizens work hard to advance the technology of ship building and other naval sciences.

Velvet's very existence shocks the world after she awoke from an incident that occurred three years prior (update: this was a mistranslation - she didn't "wake up" but "the wake of an incident" changed her life three years prior to the game's events. Thanks, Kirale). There's also a quote that ANN lifted where she says, "I won't give up. I'll bite them as many times as it takes". Taken literally, does this mean vampire pirates?

As mentioned in our prior post, ufotable will once again be handling the animated scenes featured in the game, with character designs from Mutsumi Inomata and Kousuke Fujishima.

Tales of Berseria will be released on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3, though no release date has been set. Considering the localization was announced only moments after Tales of Zestiria was announced, one has to wonder what Bandai Namco has in store for this entry here in the West.
