Atlus USA has announced that Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse will be heading to North America this Summer for Nintendo 3DS. Originally known as Shin Megami Tensei IV: Final in Japan, the game retails at $49.99 / CA$64.99 and features English voices and text.
Atlus talks about the announcement over on their blog, and how they came up with the localized name.
It’s not often that it happens, but we wanted to come up with a name that would be easier for the western audience to understand the game’s epic nature. So when our counterparts in Japan greenlit the chance for us to do so, we had a blank slate and an awesome opportunity to put the creative minds at Atlus U.S.A. to work. But hoo boy, what a process it was…

Debuting as the top seller for its launch in Japan, Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse is headed to the Americas. The story of Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse depicts the remnants of Tokyo, ravaged by a catastrophe. Demons and humans co-exist, but in this state, the remnants of humankind are just a prize being fought over by the higher deities.
One lone Hunter, the game’s protagonist, meets an early demise and through a pact with a lesser god, is brought back to life in exchange for his pledge of servitude. From there, the protagonist allies with other Hunters in the ruins of postapocalyptic Tokyo beginning a plot that crosses over with the events of the original Shin Megami Tensei IV .
An Epic Storyline That Allows You to Decide the Fate of Mankind
The Shin Megami Tensei series, known for exploring the tenuous symbiosis between man and deity, reaches deeper than ever in Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse , as the band of main characters must decide which side of peace or anarchy they are on.
Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse has nearly 450 demons to fight, fuse, or recruit to player parties, with demons from a wide selection of cultures and religions.
Fuse for Affinities
Demon fusion, combining two or more demons to form a more powerful one, is one of the cornerstones of Shin Megami Tensei games. Now, demons will have affinities for certain skills, giving players more decisions to make about which skills fused demons will inherit.
