RPG genre shines in December Japanese Charts

The RPG genre has put in an impressive performance in the December charts over in Japan, with major RPG franchises taking up four of the top ten games sold there at the end of 2009.

Final Fantasy XIII was the highest charting RPG at second place, beaten only by New Super Mario Bros Wii. Square Enix's latest RPG epic sold just under 1.7 million copies in December.

Further down the list at number four was Sega's Phantasy Star Portable 2, selling 443,216 copies, while Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver and sports RPG Inazuma Eleven 2 shifted 360,896 and 284,511 copies respectively.

Clearly Japan's love affair with the RPG genre continues.
