2009 Hardware Sales Totals for the US

While not directly connected to RPGs, the overall sales figures across an entire year for the major video game consoles in the US is a major event - and it'll effect what platforms top RPGs are announced for and released on in the coming years.

With December's NPD figures released to the public we now have final, complete sales figures for each of the major 3 home consoles in the US in 2009.

Nintendo's Wii comes out on top, selling 9.59 million consoles in 2009. Second place goes to Microsoft's Xbox 360 with 4.7 million units sold, while Sony's PS3 isn't too far behind the 360 with 4.3 million units sold in 2009.

2009's NPD figures were impressive for all three console makers, with the Wii managing to shift 3.5 million units total. The PS3 and 360 managed 1.3 million units each, with the PS3 edging out the 360 by 40,000 units.

2010 will be an interesting year for console sales figures, and RPGs like Final Fantasy XIII and Mass Effect 2 are set to help drive console sales early in the year. We'll bring you any more big or RPG-relevant sales figures as they're released.
