Yakuza Kiwami 2's official announcement and what to expect from it
Yakuza Studio's most recent event was filled with good surprises; along with the new Fist of the North Star game, a remake of the original Yakuza 2 was officially revealed with the title Yakuza Kiwami 2. It takes place a year after Yakuza 1; while the first Yakuza game was about Kiryu, Haruka, and the 10 Billion Yen, Yakuza 2 is set in both Soutenbori and Tokyo and is about a clash between East and West: The Dragon of Dojima, Kiryu Kazuma, and the Dragon of Kansai, Goda Ryuji.
This remake will use Yakuza 6's Dragon Engine and other than the enhancements on graphics, narrative drama and adventure, the battle system has been improved for a seamless experience. A new element has been added which is titled as "The Truth of Majima Goro", a separate playable scenario unique to Goro Majima. It is a direct continuation of his scenario from Yakuza 0. This new content wasn't available in the original Yakuza 2.
Famitsu provided some more details on its story (Yakuza Kiwami spoilers):
It's been one year since the case of the Disappearing 10 Billion Yen. Kiryu Kazuma has been living a peaceful life with Haruka. However, this is broken by a single bullet. With the death of the 5th Chairman of the Tojo Clan, Terada Yukio, the legendary "Dragon of Dojima" must return.
Kiryu heads to Kansai to try and save the alliance between the Tojo and Omi that was weakened a year ago. Waiting for him is a woman, Kaoru Sayama - the "Yakuza Eater" /a female police detective who hunts the Yakuza.
Tokyo, Kamurocho and Osaka, Sotenbori: a battle looms over both of the cities. The Tojo Clan hides a secret - sorrow, anger, and resentment are hidden there! Vengeance will be fulfilled after twenty years! What will fate bring Kiryu? What is the hidden truth?
The official site details the standard (7,590 yen) and limited (11,590 yen) versions. The latter comes with the game, a 3-disc audio set which includes Kiryu "Famous" CD, Majima "Famous" CD, both OSTs for Kiwami and Kiwami 2, a set of unique character business cards, and various downloadable contents such as exclusive costumes, weapons, in-game currency, and a special Playstation avatar. There will also be a special PS4 model embroidered with Kiwami 2's art which will be released on launch. It comes in black or silver and there will be both standard and 1TB versions.
