Forza Horizon developer working on a new open-world RPG with GTAV and Metal Gear Solid devs

You probably know Playground Games for Forza Horizon, a pretty good and established series of racing games almost on par with Need For Speed. We're all about RPGs here though, and the company is reportedly now looking into their first non-racing project with the development of a new open-world RPG.

This announcement coincides with the opening of a new 200-person studio, which is planned to work on the new project. Combined with the currently established Playground studio, the company's headcount is now up to more than 400. It will consist of the following people who are to be especially noted due to their previous roles in other companies.

  • Sean Eyestone - Production director (previously senior producer at EA DICE and worked at Kojima Productions for recent Metal Gear Solid games)
  • Will Kennedy - Chief designer (previously worked at Rockstar North for Grand Theft Auto V)
  • Juan Fernandez di Simon - Combat designer (previously worked at Tequila Works and Ninja Theory for Hellblade)

CEO Gavin Raeburn says that with the new team of talent, a huge promise and excitement awaits for the new project that will guarantee Playground's continued success. Although the racing and RPG genres are worlds different, I do hope the same high quality can be seen in their new non-racing project.
