A little bit of sad news to report as WarpPortal has announced via an update on its official Facebook page that the long-running MMORPG Ragnarok Online along with the rest of WarpPortal's games and services (such as Ragnarok Online 2) will be shutting down its servers across most of the European regions on May 25, 2018.
This will affect all countries of the area except for Russia and the CIS countries which include Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. Furthermore, all WarpPortal game access and account access will be blocked by regional IP. Anyone who made purchases between February 1, 2018, and April 30, 2018, will gradually receive a refund as a result of this service termination.
After more than 14 years of service, this is truly an end of an era for the continent. Of course, all of this is likely due in large part to Europe's new data protection initiative GDPR set to go into effect, coincidentally enough, on May 25. It's costing companies to upgrade their storage security to address the regulations. As a result, this won't have any impact on American servers or those of other territories.
