Dragon Age 2 Confirmed; First Trailer at GamesCom

Dragon Age Origins was something of a success for EA and RPG specialists Bioware, so fans won't be at all surprised to learn that the franchise is set to return with a fully-fledged sequel on the PS3, PC and Xbox 360. It'll likely land in stores in 2011.

Bioware have been teasing the announcement for a while not, but it was finally revealed today in the form of the latest cover of Game Informer magazine. The publication will have a blow-out on the new Bioware title before anyone else.

The rest of us will get a first look at the game in the first trailer, which the new official website tells us will be revealed at the EA Press Conference at GamesCom.

The official website also gives us the first story details, but they're vague - you'll be fighting across an entire decade, with time moving on throughout your adventure. You'll rise from a mere refugee to being the champion of the land, and according to this press release new combat mechanics will make you "think like a general".

More interesting than that is the mention of a new visual style for the game and the mention of three classes - a mage, a rogue and a warrior. If these are the only classes and how deep the visual change is remains to be seen.

Financial call talks have previously pointed to a 2011 release for the title, though it's too early to say. We'll be on-hand to chat to Bioware about the game at GamesCom, so stick with us!
