Beyond Good and Evil 2 gets a Cinematic Trailer and partners with HitRECord for community development

Kicking off today's Ubisoft E3 press event, narrative director Gabrielle Shrager and senior producer Guillaume Brunier took the stage to reintroduce us to Beyond Good and Evil 2. They described the game as an "action adventure RPG" that can be played solo or in co-op, and showed a new CG trailer.

A small bit of offscreen gameplay footage was also shown at the event, although less than a minute's worth. You can find that gameplay in an unofficial upload here (via GamersPrey). The game's official website has also seen a revamp.

Here's Ubisoft's description of the game alongside some new artwork:

Journey to System 3, for the prequel to one of Ubisoft beloved games.

Fight alongside unforgatable characters in a stunning new solar system, as you struggle for freedom and the right to determine your own fate among the stars.

The prequel will transport players into a profoundly multicultural world, capturing the spirit of the original with unforgettable characters, grandiose decors and intense dramas that play out across a vast universe. Players will rise from lowly pirate to legendary captain at the helm of massive star-faring vessels, adventuring alongside crews of unforgettable characters to fight for freedom and theright to determine their own fate among the stars. Ubisoft Montpellier will be developing the game alongside its community of fans.

Since its formal announcement at E3 last year,  Ubisoft has been pretty open about community involvement in the development of Beyond Good and Evil 2 with the Space Monkeys Program. This year they are taking things up a notch by partnering with Joseph Gordon-Levitt's HitRECord production company to compensate individual artists and designers for their contributions to the game. You can find detailed information and an FAQ at https://beyondgoodandevil.ubisoft.com/en-us/hitrecord. Check out the videos below for an overview of this initiative.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 has yet to receive a release window and has not specified final platforms yet, although they aim to release for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
