Elden Ring Haligtree Secret Medallion locations: Where to find the Left and Right halves
The world of Elden Ring is a complex beast, full of secret keys and winding routes that allow you to reach every corner of the world, quite often out-of-sequence. One such key is the Haligtree Secret Medallion, which has been broken into Left and Right halves and must be rejoined in order to unlock a significant portion of the Elden Ring map.
The Haligtree Secret Medallion is key to progression as when united it'll allow you to access the next major portion of the Elden Ring map - in fact, arguably around half of the game world is locked away behind where this lift leads. And unlike the other major lift in the game, the Lift of Rold isn't skippable. Allow us to explain...
Elden Ring Haligtree Secret Medallion: how to get & use it
You don’t have to use Elden Ring’s crafting system or anything like that to finish the Haligtree Secret Medallion - you simply need to possess both parts of it in order to operate the Grand Lift of Rold that sits just outside the Royal Capital of Leyndell. You might be thinking that you've already used this lift and therefore don't need this medallion - but it holds a secret...
This is just one of many puzzling keys in this game, like the Imbued Sword Key or how you need to use the Erudition Gesture to unlock a couple of doors. It's similar, but not identical, to how you use the Grand Lift of Dectus.
As we said earlier, you can actually operate this lift without this specific medallion - but if you do, you’ll be taken to a different location than if you use the secret medallion. Indeed, the only way to reach the final area of Elden Ring’s overworld is to obtain the Left and Right parts of the Haligtree Secret Medallion - which this page will help you to do.
Where to get the Haligtree Secret Medallion Right
The right-hand half of the Haligtree Secret Medallion is the one that’ll be available to you first - if you’re exploring thoroughly. As marked on the map above, there’s a small village hidden underneath a jutting-out cliff edge in Western Liurnia of the Lakes - this is known as the Village of the Albinaurics.
A quick note on this village - it’s not what you see on your map from above. That’s because the Village of the Albinaurics hangs underneath a vast area of land above which also features ruins and even a large church. That land you won’t be able to reach until late in the game with access to vast areas of the underworld of The Lands Between - but you can access the Village of the Albinaurics from the ground level of Liurnia from the moment you have access to that area.
Anyway, in one corner of the Village, you’ll find a character who is actually hiding, disguised in the form of a pot. He’s up against one of the cliff-edges, past a magic-casting Perfumer enemy.
As with other hidden characters of this type, if you hit the pot the character - who is called Albus - will be revealed. Don’t kill him! Instead, talk to Albus - he will hand over the Haligtree Secret Medallion (Right) key item, the first half of this particular puzzle.
Where to find the Haligtree Secret Medallion Left
The second part you need is of course the Haligtree Secret Medallion Left, and this one is actually found in the Mountaintops of the Giants, the top-right area of Elden Ring’s map which is initially reached by taking the Grand Lift of Rold with the standard Rold Medallion.
To be clear, you’ll be given the Rold Medallion as you progress the story - after beating a specific boss in the capital of Leyndell, Melina the Handmaiden will hand it over. There’s no way to get this item earlier, either. Once you’ve got it, you can head to the Mountaintops of the Giants, which is one of the final compulsory zones you must visit to advance Elden Ring’s narrative.
Once you’re in the Mountaintops of the Giants, you’ll want to head to Castle Sol, which is marked on the map above. This is a small legacy dungeon featuring a range of enemies - including those who cast fire magic and a difficult boss that summons spirits to fight alongside him.
Unfortunately, you’ll need to defeat this boss, Commander Niall, to get access to the rear portions of the castle where the Haligtree Secret Medallion (Left) is found as loot. Beat him, travel deep into the castle, and you can nab the Medallion’s Left part.
If you’ve met Latenna the Albinauric as part of a quest given to you by Sir Gideon in Roundtable Hold, she will have hinted at the location of this half of the Medallion before joining you as one of the best Spirit Ashes summons.
How to use the Haligtree Secret Medallion
With both the left and right halves of the Haligtree Secret Medallion in your possession, all you need to do is go to the bottom of the lift of Rold, just east of Leyndell.
When you stand on the lift’s entrance, you’ll be given an option to Lift Medallion - though this UI prompt defaults to the Rold Medallion, which takes you to the Mountaintops of the Giants. Instead, press left or right on the D-Pad in order to select the Secret Medallion.
Lift the Secret Medallion and the lift will operate, with the statues glowing with green rather than red. The lift acts differently when you present the Secret Medallion, and ultimately will drop you off in the Consecrated Snowfield, a new area only accessible this way.
The Consecrated Snowfield is an entirely optional area of the game that leads to the end of Latenna’s plot line as well as to the locations of two of the Lords who you’ll want to defeat in order to get their Great Runes and their Remembrances. It’s not required to set foot in this area to beat Elden Ring, but it’s home to some incredible late-game challenges and upgrade materials - so is well worth your time.
