Fate/Samurai Remnant Endings guide: how to get all endings and the order to get them

Fate/Samurai Remnant has multiple endings for you to discover. There are 3 main endings and 1 joke ending. One of these endings requires a New Game+ playthrough. For more spoiler-free New Game+ details, head to our New Game Plus guide that details what players can expect to carry over in their next playthrough and roughly how much time it takes to get through it.

To give you a rough idea of how long it takes to acquire all endings, I finished my initial playthrough and arrived at my first ending around 26-27 hours. Then, getting the rest of the endings through New Game+ added another 7-8 hours.

Obviously due to the nature of this endings guide for Fate/Samurai Remnant, there will be some minor spoilers in explaining how to get them. It revolves around some dialogue choices later on in the story, so you’ve been warned.

This is your final spoiler warning before I explain how to get all Fate/Samurai Remnant endings.

Endings Available in the First Playthrough and Our Recommendation

In your first Fate/Samurai Remnant playthrough, there are two different Final Chapters you can get depending on how you answer Miyamoto Musashi’s option on what to do near the end of Chapter 4.

Your options are either of the following:

  • Fight Tsuchimikado Yasuhiro
  • Pursue Assassin

If you pick ‘Fight Tsuchimikado Yasuhiro’, your final chapter will be Flames of Resentment.

If you pick ‘Pursue Assassin’, your final chapter will be A Ray of Light.

Both options will have different final bosses.

If you’re unsure which option to pick on your first playthrough I recommend choosing ‘Fight Tsuchimikado Yasuhiro’ first. The events that transpire in Flames of Resentment help better contextualize some new Digression side quests that only show up in New Game+. Meanwhile, A Ray of Light is somewhat more closely tied to Fate/Samurai Remnant’s third ending that’s only available in New Game+.

How to Get the 3rd Ending in New Game Plus

Aside from new Digressions that unlock throughout New Game+ in Fate/Samurai Remnant, several new events, scenes, and dialogue are interspersed throughout your 2nd playthrough.

If you’re scared of missing them, fear not - the game smartly includes the option to automatically fast-forward through all dialogue you’ve already read. It will slow down to normal speed if someone is saying something new or an upcoming scene is about to include new lines. You can also skip scenes and if a scene that’s about to be skipped has unread text, the game will notify you in red text that it does before you go through with it.

In your New Game+ run, you’ll once again be met with Miyamoto Musashi’s choice of either ‘Fight Tsuchimikado Yasuhiro’ or ‘Pursue Assassin’. Make a save here in New Game+ before you make an option if you want to get a 100% completion on your Completed Story log in the main menu.

Pick the other option that you did not choose on your first playthrough.

  • If you chose ‘Fight Tsuchimikado Yasuhiro’ on your first run, choose ‘Pursue Assassin’.
  • If you chose ‘Pursue Assassin’ on your first run, choose ‘Fight Tsuchimikado Yasuhiro’.

This is not a strict prerequisite to obtain the 3rd ending, but obviously you want to see the other ending too.

Now what I’m about to tell you is very important. Listen closely.

At the very end of chapter 5, the player is given control of Iori right before his 1-vs-1 duel with Musashi. DO NOT WALK TOWARD THE GATE PAST DAYU AND SABER YET. MAKE A SAVE HERE NOW. This will save you a lot of time later.

After Iori’s duel with Musashi, several events happen and a new choice opens up in New Game+. The following options are:

  • Destroy it
  • Don’t destroy it

If you pick ‘Destroy it’, it will go to either the Flames of Resentment or A Ray of Light ending route depending on what you chose with Musashi earlier in your New Game Plus run. I recommend choosing 'Destroy it' first before you choose the ‘Don’t destroy it' option. Finish your New Game+ playthrough and enjoy viewing whatever ending you didn’t see on your first run.

Now after that, load the save that you made right before the duel with Musashi. This time, choose ‘Don’t destroy it’ to unlock the exclusive New Game+ Final Chapter, Entreat the Darkness.

After you’re taken back to the main menu, you’ll notice that your Lunar Chronicles completion % is still not at 100%. Most likely, Entreat the Darkness is not completely at 100% yet and you’ll be at a loss on why that’s the case.

Remember that save I told you to make in New Game+ right before making the ‘Fight Tsuchimikado Yasuhiro’ or ‘Pursue Assassin’ option with Miyamoto Musashi?

In order to 100% Entreat the Darkness on the Completed Story page, you must redo the option you made on your first playthrough in New Game+. That’s because Entreat the Darkness has a single different cutscene that plays depending on that previous option. So if you want to see it and get the complete 100%, go load up that save, choose the option you chose in your initial run, and select the ‘Don’t destroy it’ option again to go through Entreat the Darkness one more time.

How to get the Joke Ending

Fate-Samurai-Remnant_20230816_182.jpg

Fate/Samurai Remnant has a 4th joke ending that you can view by following the Boss’s Digression side quest chain. As you complete his Digressions, there will eventually be a scene when you visit him in which he asks Iori and Saber if they want to become his vassals.

There will be a handful of selections in which you accept or deny his request. Keep accepting becoming his vassal no matter what, even when Saber chimes in and insists that Iori doesn’t do it. Don’t let up and accept becoming the Boss’s vassal.

You will get an early credits roll and a special joke ending scene.

There is also an optional superboss fight against the Boss should you choose not to become his vassal and accept his request to fight whenever you’re up for it. Come prepared - it’s one of the toughest fights in the entire game.
