Mass Effect: Andromeda Guide - How to get Your Own Remnant VI in Battle

Mass Effect: Andromeda's combat system technically allows for only two additional squad members -- but there is a way through which you can get a third member on your team.

Through a specific side-quest with squad member Peebee, you're able to unlock the hidden skill in the tech section of your skills. This is the Remnant VI skill, which allows you to call upon Zap, a controllable Remnant observer that will go into battle with you and your crew. When you equip and use this power, the Remnant observer will appear and follow you around, attacking any enemies and helping by protecting you and your team. How to Unlock the Remnant VI Skill

If you look at your Tech skills section early on in the game, you'll notice that there is a skill labeled "Unknown." The requirements are to "Investigate Remnant technology to unlock this skill," and the way to unlock it is actually through a companion quest with Peebee called "Peebee's Secret Project."

In order to unlock this skill, you have to:

  • Complete the vault challenge on Eos
  • Talk to Peebee in the Tempest escape pod room after completing the Eos vault
  • Check your email for a message from Peebee titled "Rem-Tech"
  • Recover the rem-tech from the remnant site on Voeld
  • Defeat the Remnant observers and breachers at the monolith site, which is where your navpoint will lead you to
  • Upon doing so, look around and scan for a Remnant glyph symbol in order to solve the Remnant Decryption Puzzle

Remnant Decryption Puzzle Solution:

  • Solve the puzzle to obtain Peebee's rem-tech
  • Then, go back to the Tempest and speak to Peebee in the escape pod room
  • After the conversation, go to the Nexus and meet with her in her apartment (last door on the right in the apartments section of the Docking Bay)
  • After the scene, the "Remnant VI" skill will be unlocked!

Rank 1 - Remnant VI

Deploys a retrofitted Remnant Observer that repairs itself over time, cloaks when critically damaged, and counts as a tech construct.
Tap button: Directs the VI to attack a particular target.
Hold button: Deactivates the VI.

Rank 2 - Durability

+15% VI Health

Rank 3 - Beam Damage

+15% VI Beam Damage

Rank 4 - Expedited Repairs or Recharge Speed

+40% VI Health Regen
OR
+30% VI Health Regen Delay Reduction

Rank 5 - Focus Module or Close Combat Module

+30% VI Beam Damage
OR
+100% VI Health. The VI engages at a closer range, demanding foes' attention.

Rank 6 - Detonating Missiles or Electric Beam

Missile Damage: 90; Missile Damage Radius (m): 2.5; Missile Frequency (s): 10. Adds explosive missiles to the VI's arsenal (in addition to its beam weapon). Missiles trigger combo detonations.
OR
Shield Damage Bonus: 25%; Synthetic Damage Bonus: 15%; Stun Duration (2): 1. The VI's beam attack has a chance to electrically prime enemies for combo detonations and stun them. Increases damage to shields and synthetic enemies.
