Bravely Default Flying Fairy Vampire Job Class Guide: Genome Abilities and More

In Bravely Default Flying Fairy, one of the most unique jobs you can unlock is the Vampire. This class is incredibly versatile and functions quite differently from most other jobs in the game. To start the Vampire questline is quite the pain. You will need to go around the world collecting keystones to unlock the seal to the Vampire Manor.  

The Vampire job is similar to the Blue Mage class from the Final Fantasy series. What makes the Vampire stand out is its Genome abilities, which allow you to learn special enemy skills. When an enemy uses a unique skill on your party members. It is possible to learn Genome skill while using other classes, but you will need to learn Genome Drain, which is a very high-level skill for the Vampire Job class.  

The Vampire Questline

To start the vampire quest line, you will need to defeat the boss at the end of Eternia Central Command near the end of Chapter 4. Once you have defeated the boss, return to Eternia. You will need to go to the path towards the Vampire Castle. There is going to be a Dragon Zombie while going through the path, you might even have already defeated the dragon as you play. 

Once you have reached the castle, you will notice the door is sealed. From here, you will need to go collect the keystones. Every keystone has an elemental dragon as a boss when you examine it. Once you have collected all keystones, return to the vampire castle and unlock the seal. Head to the end of the castle and defeat Lord DeRosso to get the Vampire Job.

Note: If you progress to the next chapter, you will need to repeat the entire questline from the beginning. Or if you want to access the Vampire Castle again. 

Keystone Location

As mentioned earlier, you will need to collect all the keystones to unlock the Vampire Castle. Check the following location to find the keystones. You will need to defeat an elemental dragon as you examine the stones. A notable thing is that these dragons can all inflict a certain ailment of some kind, which can be dangerous depending on the ailment and unprepared players. 

  • Fire Keystone - East of Starkfort or North of Grapp Keep.
  • Water Keystone - Small island north of Yulyana Forest.
  • Wind Keystone -  Near the Ancheim oasis.
  • Earth Keystone - Southwest of Eternia.
  • Light Keystone - Northeast of Yulyana Forest.
  • Dark Keystone - North of Lontano Villa. 

Job Abilities

  1. Genome Ability
    • Use a monster's ability.
  2. Absorb P. Damage (Support 1)
    • Restore HP equal to 30% of the damage taken from physical attacks. However, damage resulting in K.O. will not be healed.
  3. Blood Thirst
    • Absorb from one target an amount of HP equal to the damage dealt by a conventional attack.
  4. Bloodlust (Support 1)
    • Physical Attack, Magic Attack, Physical Defense, and Magic Defense rise by 25% for 5 turns each time you defeat an enemy with your own attack. 
  5. Charm
    • Has a 75% chance to place one target in the Charm state.
  6. Magic Thirst
    • Absorb from one target an amount of MP equal to 10% of the damage dealt by a conventional attack.
  7. Monster Ability Up (Support 1)
    • Raise the damage dealt by genome abilities to 1.25 times normal.
  8. Battle Thirst
    • Absorb 1 BP from one target.
  9. Subvert
    • Has a 50% chance to place all enemies in the charm state.
  10. Self-Restore (Support 1)
    • Fully restore your HP at the end of battle.
  11. Absorb Stats
    • Absorb the selected stat from one target.
  12. Drain Attack Up (Support 1)
    • Raise the damage dealt by drain attacks to 1.5 times normal. 
  13. Genome Drain (Support 1)
    • A character with this ability can learn certain enemy abilities when targeted by them.
  14. Rise from Dead (Support 1)
    • If KOed, there is a chance (50%) of reviving at the end of the turn.

Genome Abilities

  • Curse
    • Description: Lower Physical attack and Physical Defense of one target.

      • Ghost - Eisenberg Region
      • Specter - Harena Ruins B2 
  • Spray
    • Description: Unleash a water-based physical attack on target. Default does not reduce damage from this attack.
    • Location 
      • Deathfish - Ancheim Sea, Yulyana Lake, Dimension's Hasp B8
      • Remora - Engine Room
  • Venom
    • Description: Attacks one target with the same damage as a normal attack, but has a 75% chance to Poison.
    • Location 
      • Red Flan - Underflow
  • Wing Scales
    • Description: Attacks one target with the same damage as a normal attack, but has a 75% chance to Confuse.
    • Location 
      • Great Moth - Miasma Woods, Vestment Cave
Note: Will not learn Wing Scales if the ally is inflicted with Confuse.
  • Firestorm
    • Description: Deal fire-based damage to target, and lower P.Def by 3 turns.
    • Location 
      • Flame Moth - Underflow

  • Tornado
    • Description: Unleash a wind-based physical attack on all enemies.
    • Location

  • Blizzard Blast
    • Description: Unleash a water-based physical attack on all enemies.
    • Location 
      • Ice Golem - Eternia Region
  • Dual Attack
    • Description: Unleash two attacks on random targets.
    • Location 
      • Catamount - Witherwoods
  • Chomp
    • Description: 50% chance to reduce one target's HP to 1. Does not work on bosses.

  • Blaster
    • Description: Paralyze all enemies.
    • Location 
      • Zwart - Twilight Ruins
Note: Will not learn Blaster if the ally is inflicted with Paralyze.
  • Paralyzing Pollen
    • Description: Hits one target with the same damage as a normal attack, but has a 75% chance to Paralyze.
    • Location 
      • Alraune - Florem Region
      • Lord DeRosso - Vampire Castle
Note: Will not learn Paralyzing Pollen if the ally is inflicted with Paralyze.
  • Fireball
    • Description: Does fire damage to one target, ignoring physical defense.
    • Location

  • Bone Crush
    • Description: Unleash an attack on all targets. Does more damage to injured enemies.
    • Location 
      • Skull Lancer - Eisenburg Region
      • Lord DeRosso - Vampire Castle
  • Withering Silence
    • Description: Deal same damage as a conventional attack to target and inflict silence.
    • Location 
      • Kobold - Caldisla Region, Norende Ravine, Centro Keep

    • Description: An earth-based physical attack on all targets.

      • Soil Eater - Eisenburg Region
  • Sandstorm
    • Description: Earth physical attack on all enemies that has a 50% chance to Blind each target.

  • Gastric Juices
    • Description: Attack that hits all enemies with the same damage of a normal attack, but lowers their physical defense by 25% for 3 turns.
    • Location 
      • Gastric Worm - Everlast Tower, Dimension Hasp
  • Rock Storm
    • Description: Unleash an earth-based physical attack on all enemies.
    • Location 
      • Megascolides - Everlast Tower
  • Toxic Whirl
    • Description: Unleash a physical attack on all enemies and inflict poison.
    • Location 
      • Kaiser Cobra - Everlast Tower

  • White Wind
    • Description: Restores HP of all allies equal to the user's current HP.
    • Location 
      • Aero Lantern - Temple of Wind
Note: You need to inflict the Aero Lantern with Charm so that it will cast Charm on your party to learn White Wind.

    • Description: Inflict sleep on all enemies

    • Description: Unleash a fire-based physical attack on all enemies.

    • Description: Unleash a water-based physical attack on all enemies.

  • Aqua Regia
    • Description: Unleash a physical attack on one target and lower its P.Def to minimum for 4 turns.

  • Energy Burst
    • Description: Unleash a powerful physical attack on all enemies.

    • Description: Spell that does tremendous fire damage to all enemies.
