How to use amiibo in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment is now available worldwide. Not only is it getting new amiibo in the near future, but it ships with amiibo support for not just the Zelda series amiibo, but everything else as well so far. This guide will cover when you unlock the amiibo feature in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, how to scan amiibo, and what rewards you get. There will be no spoilers for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment in this guide.

When do you unlock amiibo support in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment?

When you first launch the game, you don't actually have access to the system menu or anything. You're forced into some cut-scenes and then gain control of Zelda. After you walk for a bit and then do a few tutorial battles, you will be rewarded with a "Special Ration" healing item. You need to play a bit more of the tutorial and clear the map until you reach the marked area on the map. Once you finish a few more tutorial battles and finish The Art of the Blade mission, you will get the ability to save, return to the title screen, and also use amiibo in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment.

When you are on the title screen, the option at the bottom, below "Options", is amiibo. Selecting this will let you scan amiibo from not only The Legend of Zelda series, but any amiibo based on what I've been able to test.

How many amiibo can you scan in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment?

You can scan an individual amiibo once per day and up to five amiibo in total per day.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment amiibo rewards

I've tested the Link and Zelda amiibo from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and also Bayonetta, Dark Souls, and Fire Emblem series amiibo. The Zelda ones gave me three sets of items while the others only gave me one set each. Nintendo's listing for amiibo support mentions "crafting materials and other items that you might find helpful in your quest to defeat the Demon King!"

You can find screenshots from my scan results for a few of the amiibo above.
