Does Final Fantasy VII Remake Streamlined Progression or Head Start affect achievements and trophies?
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade now features Streamlined Progression across Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC platforms. The game also includes a Head Start option to start with boosted characters. With options or basically cheats like these, some games disable achievements or trophies. With Final Fantasy VII Remake, only one specific option in the settings appears to prevent you from earning certain achievements or trophies. In this guide, I will cover what each option means, what the Head Start mode does, and what you should disable if you want to use Streamlined Progression while playing and earning achievements and trophies.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Head Start mode explained
Final Fantasy VII Remake features a "New Game - Head Start" option letting you start with a high level character, powered-up inventory, 50k GIL, a number of maxed out materia, and more. This does not appear to disable trophies or achievements as I was able to unlock some achievements in the Xbox Series X version when using the option enabled on a new game to test.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Streamlined Progression explained
Final Fantasy VII Remake Streamlined Progression is a new menu under the system options menu. It is listed as Streamlined Progression and only visible once you have loaded into a save file for the base game or the Yuffie Episode Intermission DLC. The Final Fantasy VII Remake Streamlined Progression options with what they do and if they affect trophies are below:
- Constant Max HP: Toggle the ability for characters to always maintain maximum HP values.
- Constant Max MP: Toggle the ability for characters to always maintain maximum MP values.
- Limit Gauge Always Full: Toggle the ability to begin battle with a full limit gauge that never depletes.
- ATB Gauge Always Full: Toggle the ability to begin battle with a full ATB gauge that never depltes.
- Constant Max Damage: Toggle the ability to always deal 9,999 damage
- 2x EXP and 3x AP Gain: Toggle the ability to gain twice the amount of EXP and thrice the amount of AP from combat. This setting will be enabled regardless after you complete the game.
- Easy Weapon Ability Acquisition: Toggle the ability to learn weapon abilities after only one use.
- Constant Max Gil: Toggle the ability to maintain the maximum amount of gil even after patronizing shops. Your gil will NOT revert to its previous amount once you disable this setting.
- Constant Max Recovery Items: Toggle the ability to maintain the maximum number of recovery-related items like potions and ether. Your items will NOT revert to their previous number once you disable this setting.
- Max Materia Levels: Toggle the ability to immediately set all materials to their maximum levels. You will not be able to earn the "Materia for Beginners" achievement/trophy while this setting is enabled. All your materia will remain at the maximum level even after disabling it after you enable it once. This is the setting to NOT enable if you care about all trophies and achievements.
