Update: Bandai Namco Southeast Asia has confirmed that the English version of Super Robot Wars 30 will release simultaneously with Japan on October 28. Also, for the first time in the series' localization, players outside Japan will be able to add licensed vocal songs from the featured anime shows by purchasing the Premium Sound & Data Pack DLC.

Original: Bandai Namco has revealed more details on Super Robot Wars 30 at the Super Robot Wars 30th Anniversary live stream. After the initial reveal at E3 2021 Nintendo Direct teased a portion of the game's content, today's stream unveiled the full title roster for the game. Super Robot Wars 30 will also have a different storyline system from most of the recent series releases.

Original Characters

As with prior SRW games, Super Robot Wars 30 will let you choose between a male or female protagonist. The male protagonist will be Edge Sainklaus (voiced by Tomokazu Sugita) while the female one will be Az Sainklaus (voiced by Mai Aizawa). No matter which one you pick, the protagonist will pilot the new original mech VT-XXX  Huckebein 30 and be confronted by the antagonist Caruleum Vaull (voiced by Yuichi Nakamura), who pilots a robot named Gravalin.

Players will also be able to unlock two mechs from the Original Generations series—SRX (piloted by Ryusei Date) and Cybaster (piloted by Masaki Andoh)—through extra missions that will be available with DLC or early purchases.

Gameplay Features

While recent SRW releases had a linear story progression, Super Robot Wars 30 will use a non-linear progression system that was present in SRW Impact and Compact series, and last used in the 2004-2005 title SRW MX on PlayStation 2 and Portable.

The Tactical Area Selection system will let you choose missions from the World Map. You can pick the missions in any order you wish, but it will also determine which characters and units will join the team earlier. Some of the missions will be repeatable for grinding money and experience.

The Auto Battle system will make its console debut here, after having been previously introduced in SRW DD. You will be able to set the Auto Mode Strategy for each individual unit from the game menu.

Bandai Namco will have some changes in the way they release content for this game. Prior SRW releases had a Japanese console-exclusive Premium Sound Edition that contained licensed vocal songs from the featured titles. In SRW 30, they will instead sell the vocal tracks as a DLC pack that will also be available on PC as a series first. The original protagonists, Edge and Az, will also have their own theme songs with vocal tracks included in the regular release.

In addition, Bandai Namco will also release a set of 15 bonus scenarios and a season pass that will add a total of 18 new units (4 of them coming from the OG series) split into two batches.
