Biomutant surpasses 1 million units sold; development and marketing costs recouped within one week of launch

Embracer Group, parent company of publisher THQ Nordic, today released its Interim Report Q1 2021 [PDF]. Within the report, the holding company revealed that open-world action RPG Biomutant has sold more than 1 million units since its release on May 25.

Embracer notes that the costs of development & marketing, as well as the costs of acquiring developer Experiment 101 & the IP, were all recouped within a week of launch. As a whole, Embracer's sales and earnings are all up on the quarter when compared to last year, with Biomutant's release being labeled as the primary revenue driver.

Biomutant received mixed reviews overall, including our own 6/10 review, but that didn't prevent the game from being a financial success for the company.

As a final note for Embracer's Q1 report: though it was not released in Q1, Gearbox Publishing's co-operative action RPG Tribes of Midgard is also stated to have sold 250,000 units within three days of its launch on July 27.
